Women where do you get your clothing for Mass?

I was actually just wondering this. I’ve been searching for months for any sign of a modest long dress without the “peek a boo back” or ridiculously long slit. Impossible to find.

I highly recommend eShakti. There are a wide variety of dresses: many are fit-and-flare with a bit of a retro vibe, which is right up my alley. The necklines, sleeve lengths and skirt lengths can be personalized to fit one’s style (I prefer higher necklines, 3/4 length sleeves and mid-calf length skirts) and the dresses can be made-to-measure (which really flatters my plus-sized pear-shaped figure). And the dresses have pockets!

The prices are fairly reasonable (usually ~US$50-$80) and usually arrive from the factory in India in about two weeks. That is not very long, considering that the clothes are made to order. The shipping and personalization are each about US$10 (which therefore can add approximately US$20 to the order), but there are frequent sales.

This dress is very similar to the first dress I ordered from eShakti a year ago. I have ordered another five dresses from eShakti since then. Returns are easy, even when the clothes are made-to-measure. In addition, eShakti sells skirts, tops, jackets, denim and party clothes, but I have not yet bought any of those from them.
 
I like to get stuff from Deva by Cammy (used to be Deva Lifewear) , Marketplace Handwork of India (they feature clothes made by collectives of women in India who learn about how to run a business and financial management in the course of making and selling the items) , the Vermont Country Store and various other catalogs like Northstyle. I never have a problem finding “modest” dresses and have been wearing a lot of calf-length “prairie dress” stuff since the 1980s. I’m only 5 foot 4 so many dresses run long on me as it is.

You can also find some stuff at places like Target occasionally. It’s easier if you’re going for a casual flowy look as opposed to a very tailored look. I am not a fan of the tailored look outside of suits for work, so I can always find stuff.
 
Most of my clothes are purchased at Christopher Banks or Dress Barn. I like maxi skirts with shells and cardi’s for mass. I’ve also found some things at JCPenney (the Worthington line is business suit style). Finding things on sale is the key!
 
Zappos.com has a great assortment of skirts and dresses. Free shipping and returns. Great company, all brands from high to low, cheap to expensive. Skirts go with lots of tops so I like them a little more than dresses, but both work. I found some great online shops for head coverings too. Google Robin Nest at Etsy.
 
If all you’re finding are peek a boo backs and slits, you’re definitely shopping in the wrong store or the wrong section.
I never come across those things. I would have to go out of my way to find them.

I find appropriate clothing at most places that don’t market to pre-teens.
And I don’t always buy things online. Are your shopping choices very limited where you live?
 
Yeah its kind of limited where I live (smallish midwestern town) so I’ve had to resort to shopping online instead.
 
I have horrid big city traffic problems where I live. Trying to drive to a store on a weekend or even weekday early evening is a daunting prospect. I online shop more and more. Shop owners need websites, online business if they are going to survive. The key of course is to only go to companies you know well and trust. Really check out the website, etc. And of course I have taken chances blindly - red bubble is great for tshirts. But I was worried first time; it was a risk. And once you know you take a medium or whatever, that usually works too - I hardly ever have to send anything back - maybe once or twice a year. (I do hate that) I have a fantastic super old gas stove which I love to cook on. I needed new burner splatter pans - drove all around looking for them. No luck. Hours. Couple of times, over a period of months (kept putting it on the back burner haha) Found them online. $4 apiece. 🙂 Bought 4 for around $20. Done.

eBay has about everything you could imagine for men and surely even more for women as is the case in the department stores as well. You’d be surprised at the new name brand clothing that can be had on there for dimes on the dollar or less if you use their search function properly (ie. cheapest items first or within the range you want to spend, all from USA or your own country etc.) otherwise it’s too easy to get lost in the huge selection. Of course you can’t try it on but if you’ve owned similar clothing of the same brands you should have an idea how their sizes generally fit.

I buy some of my wardrobe from Logo and Isaac Mizrahi which are brands that QVC carries. I wait for a sale then try and stock up. Making outfits mix and match really work for me and my budget! I love Zappos, especially for great prices on shoes and boots and for coats, REI and Zappos.
 
REI does have great skirts don’t they. I got a great dress there too, clearance. It works for Church, work, and you can walk/bike short distances in it with leggings. Odd place to buy skirts but they are well made, affordable, comfortable and really cute - and they come in black, dark grey, basic colors so they work in ‘dress up’ situations.
 
I don’t think it matters too much where you get your clothes from but one thing I like about traditional Mass is that at every one I have been too all the women and girls were modestly dressed in skirts and dresses with covered shoulders etc and almost exclusively wearing some sort of head covering.
 
Wow - Roolee has some great stuff! And they have cute, decently priced clothes for nursing mothers! 🎉

@misstherese - How have the dresses held up once you’ve washed them? Have they shrunk at all or pilled?
 
Sorry if I’m being a downer but hopefully these website links are safe from things like
dog and cat fur/material and horrible child labor.
 
I second the recommendation for eShakti! They have a huge variety of dresses with new styles all the time, and you can modify things like the skirt length, sleeve type, and neckline for just a small extra fee. They have sales quite often, too.

I bought two dresses - one was 100% cotton and the other was a cotton/linen mix. I’ve washed and dried them a few times but recently I’ve switched to just washing them on cold and hanging drying them because I’m afraid they might shrink, (though they haven’t yet) which tends to happen with clothes of natural fibers.
