Hi yall!

I know I’ve been out of the loop lately, but I’ve been busy making a baby : )
Also, my parents came in to town to visit me for 6 weeks. I love them dearly but good grief are they needy lol I am exhausted! I guess they are getting older : (

Anyhow, I need some help, advice etc. I have been asked to put together a small women’s conference for our church. It will be either half a day or full day depending on what we line up. Problem is I have never done this before and I really don’t know what or how to do it. I’ve also never attended one. I have no idea what type of activities to line up. Can some of you that have attended ones share your experiences, what you enjoyed most? What you did not like? I really need some help brainstorming and getting the ball rolling. Also, any social media resources would be much appreciated too! I will be googling of course but I wanted to get some personal feedback.

Thanks!

Not much help on the “Women’s Conference” but congratulations on your baby!

God bless.

PS. Call Catholic Answers. They have speakers (men and women) that would love to come and talk for a women’s conf.

Plan a half hour or so for signing in with light refreshments: Danish, bagels, cream cheese, fresh fruit, juice, coffee.
Begin with a Keynote Speaker: Maybe a neighboring Pastor or someone from a nearby retreat center or Monastery.
The Keynote should be around 30-45 mins.
After the keynote speaker, have a short break followed by Mass with your Pastor.
Afterward, have a round table discussion where perhaps the Social Justice minister of your parish gives a presentation of the needs of your community, and invite participants to brainstorm ideas or feedback from programs they themselves have participated in. Have someone there to take notes and compile ideas.
Break for a lunch that can either be provided by one of the ministries of the parish ( A BBQ by the Knights, a lunch of various salads and quiches by the ladies guild, or some other group. It can be a buffet, or you can involve the teens by having them actually serve from rolling carts. our teens LOVE doing this.
After lunch, show a brief film on your topic of the day (Pro-Life, Social Justice, Hunger Initiative, Homelessness, etc.) and then have a presentation from someone from the Diocese outlining the departments at the Chancery that are there to support new parish ministries.
Finish with prizes…number under your chair wins the centerpieces, names drawn from a jar win a choice of books on your topic of the day, etc.
Make sure each participant gets a take-away: a Holy Card with a prayer especially for the program, and a small token reflecting the day.
Make sure that you have gift bags for all your presenters. Small things like bottled water, a notepad, a pen, mints, a keychain or CD, and a $20 gift card for gasoline for coming out.
Be sure to invite someone from your Music Ministry to cantor the Mass and arrange for altar servers.
We do lots of these…an ice breaker game can be fun after lunch as well.
There are things called “Brain Breaks” which are great fun, take literally 2 minutes online. We use them all the time for meetings to get people out of their chairs to stretch. Always good for a laugh.
Hope that helps!
Peace
Clare

Also:
Your Diocese should have a Speaker’s Bureau…a listing of approved and really high quality speakers on various topics. Meet with your pastor and poll a few ladies in the parish to see what topic they might be most interested in.

Clare thank you so much for the taking the time to respond. Great ideas!

Some of those will work, some will not. I should have mentioned this is the Military Dioceses and we are on a small foreign island in the pacific where Catholic services are extremely limited.

I would still love to hear more feed back from others. Please help with some advice and if you cant offer help please pray that the Holy Spirit gives me wisdom.

Thanks : )

You can try getting a renowned speaker via SKYPE and a big screen !

I’m one of the people who can’t offer specific advice, but I’m happy to pray that the Holy Spirit guides you. Congratulations on your growing baby!
