Around here for the last few months, they’ve been airing this wonderful commercial on television. A teenage African America boy is adopted by Hispanic parents, who watch as he stares at their family picture with them and two kids, then they show him to his room (“We’ve kept it a little spare so you can decorate it how you like” says the dad.) The boy is hesitant at first to talk or get involved with the other kids, but the mom just keeps smiling at him as if to say, “We’re so glad you’re part of our family.” Eventually he joins in with the family, eating ice cream with his siblings and playing soccer with them and the dad. At the end of the commercial, he comes in the front door after school, sees the family picture updated with him in it, and then he goes to the kitchen and embraces his mother, who is very touched.
It’s so beautiful!
Has anyone on this board adopted teenagers? How tough is it? Is it really so rewarding?
I know we can’t adopt a teen, but I have to say, it is a beautiful ministry and calling, and I admire those who do it.
I just love that commercial!
