Wondering-sharing thoughts feelings about men/women age differences...couples...anyone wish to share as well please do

Very disappointing…I told my bf that we shouldn’t expect anyone and to just prepare something super small…like maybe 10 people…to look for a restaurant to have our reception and that’s it…

You know what, darling? That’s exactly the kind of wedding we had–a total of 12, including us. And we had a fun, stressfree dinner at a restaurant afterward. As we were leaving the restaurant to go back to my folks’ house for dessert (and our teeny-weeny wedding cake, which I decorated wobbily ), I heard one of the other diners say, as we passed their table, “Now that’s the way to do a wedding!”

It must be so hard to desperately want the approval of a parent and not have it, especially regarding such a wonderful life event. But you can still have a beautiful wedding, even if it’s wee like ours was.

Aw that’s sweet! See I had a small wedding for my first wedding, it was aroudn 40 people, the reception was at my mom’s bf’s house and they had a nice cake and all, they had a huge yard so everyone ate out there etc…and for once I really wanted to have a nicer wedding you know? It’s my first marriage through the church and my bf’s first marriage all together…so it would have been nice but whatever I am not holding my breath!! THe only one in his family that approve is his father, and the only ones that approve in my family are my father and grandmother (mother’s side) other than that we are pretty much on our own!! My bffl approve they are like woohoo!! LOL and hopefullly they will be able to make it…I am excited and can’t wait!

We did start looking at rings but my honey says he wants to have the honor of choosing for us!! I guess their tradition???

It’s wonderful to hear some of your family will be able to share your big day with you! And I’m so happy your father-in-law is on board as well. He’ll be a great support to your fiance. Plus, having a FIL who loves you and you love back is so precious (my father-in-law is one of my favourite people ever).

It sounds like you have a fantastic guy (what a darling about the rings!), and I really, truly wish you both the very best in your new life together–less than a year away!

Just my two cents… I was in your shoes when my hubby and I got engaged. My mom (my whole family, in fact!) thought I was nuts!!! My hubby is 18.5 years older than me. He is a year older than my mom and 6 months younger than my dad.

I don’t think it matters who is older than whom, families who are going to criticize are going to find something to focus on whether it is age, personality traits, or hair color I will admit that society tends to congratulate a man who marries a younger woman and question a woman who marries a younger man. But double standards are the standard…

The best thing to do is just prove them wrong… We have been together for 14 years. (married for 10) We have 2 wonderful daughters and could not be happier. My family has not only accepted him as my husband, but have welcomed them into their hearts as they see how happy he and I are together.

Thanks for your thoughts, story and advice…That is my hope and dream…So far it’s been a hectic yet wonderful almost 3 years and looking forward to many many many more!!!
