Just managed to stop myself committing a particular sin, now i can go to Mass with a clear conscience and receive the Lord! it’s been 2 months and very testing at times but the Holy Spirit has been helping me. Yaaaayyyyy!! Roll on Mass! Sorry, just had to share my explosion of joy and gratitude to God. Off now to put on my Sunday Best!!!:):)🙂

There doesn’t seem to be anything in this thread that concerns Eastern Catholicism. Perhaps the OP could ask a moderator to move it to a more appropriate forum.

i probably posted in the wrong section, sorry. I have trouble finding the “new thread” thing. but is it really wrong to post such a thread in any section? What’s wrong or inappropriate about expressing the joy experienced from God’s grace?

Given that I am a sinner of note - I wonder how one actually manages to go more than a few minutes without committing the sins of:

Pride and Vanity (self-satisfaction)

I think that is why St John Chrysostom wrote that “hell is paved with the skulls of priests.”

NOT ALL of us have yet attained your level of holiness my friend. PLEASE pray fo us.

God Bless,

NO holiness here. I wish there was some. With each passing year I realize that I really am “the greatest” (Tim 1:15) I certainly didn’t mean anything harsh outwardly directed.

I know if I go to confession on Saturday nightm by 10am on Sunday I really am no longer “sinless.” An evening of watching TV or interacting with friends is, to use the Roman expression, an occasion of sin. I have longed for the new cars in the ads, enjoyed inappropriate comedy, and passively sat through the news watching others suffer from crime or wars. I know it is true for me - and I would suggest it should be for everyone.

That is why at the beginning part of Mass, (Penitential rite), we have the prayer of confession:

Confiteor

the whole congregation: I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and what I have failed to do; and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

This is then followed by the Priest’s prayer (formulation) of absolution:

Priest: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
Congregation: Amen.

Therefore, as long as one does not have the state or mortal/grave sin, we are “sinfree” at this time. 👍👍

blessings,
CEM
