Hello,
When I was active LDS (for about a year) I followed the word of wisdom. Now that I'm no longer a member I keep the Mosaic law on foods to a certain extent.

I was wondering about the spiritual gift “Word of Wisdom” as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:8. That’s what it is called in some older translations of the Bible such as the KJV. Might someone explain what exactly that is about?:confused:

Hello lego,

1COR 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to
profit withal.
1COR 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to
another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
1COR 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of
healing by the same Spirit;
In the early church believers formed communities. It wouldn't be any good for all members to have the ability to do everything. some people in the community had one skill and others had other skills.

Paul mentions elsewhere in Corinthians where a church community compares to the physical body. Not every part can be an eye, or a foot, or an armpit. Each part of the body has its own function (or skill, as it were) but the different “skills” work together to reach the particular goal.
