Hi, (I hope this is the appropriate forum for my question)

I was just casually offered a paid position as an assistant to the facilities manager at a non-denominational church from a friend of mine who preaches there. He knows I’m Catholic but also knows that I’m currently looking for some work and offered me this position.

I love the Catholic Church and would never leave her but I’m wondering if God would be displeased with me if I took this small position. My intention would be to do good work for them while at the same time learning about my coworkers faith and sharing my own Catholic faith.

I don’t need to take this job to stay financially stable.

Does anyone know what the Church teaches on things like this?

Thanks,
Peter

If facilities manager means maintenance, I can’t see anything wrong with it. If it means engaging in ministries, though, that might not be such a good idea since your own faith might clash with their goals. You may wish to discuss this with your priest. 🙂

When I first read the title I thought you were asking if it would be okay to work in a ministerial capacity (youth minister, DRE, etc), which I would recommend against. Keeping the grounds clean? If you need the work, I can’t see why that would be problematic.

Just a “heads up”: Some CAF participants have related being required to sign a statement of faith as a requisite for employment with the non-Catholic community; such statements include acceptance of Protestant beliefs that contradict the teachings of the Church.

Thanks for the heads up I appreciate that. And thanks to all who have responded!
