Working for an immoral company

Is it immoral to work for a company that supports things like gay marriage or planned parenthood? Your job will give that company money and some of that money will make it’s way almost directly to Planned Parenthood? Does this make you an accomplice in the sin?

That depends. If you have any legitimate means of working for a -moral- company instead, that would certainly be preferred, and of course, if you make any on-the-job decisions that -support- your company’s immoral choices, that would be a sin. However, I think that for the most part, this falls under the “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s” category. We can’t necessarily influence those in authority over us. We just need to avoid doing any immoral things ourselves.

How close is this company to Planned Parenthood? Are they a partner or a service company to PP? How much support do they contribute? Do they ask you to also contribute, such as to the United Way (which contributes to PP)?

I don’t think you have direct sin but morally, I’d have a problem working for such a company.

Unless you are the owner, or sole decision maker on these things then there isn’t much you can do about what the company supports. You DO have to support your family and as such it may be necessary for you to work for such a company.
Yes your work will provide funds that the company is using to support immoral things. But is this any different than paying taxes to a government that supports immoral things? As mentioned above, this is more of a “render unto Caesar…” issue than anything else.

Of course if you can find work elsewhere, this would be preferable…but you need to discern this in prayer.

No. If the boss of your company donates money to support Planned Parenthood, then it is his sin and not yours, even if he does it in his company’s name. However, if your job requires you to cooperate with the sin (ex. work at a booth at a gay pride festival) than I think you have a problem.

Frankly it sounds like your in the wrong environment. There is evil in a company like that and evil tends to influence towards further evil. Try to find somewhere else to work for your own good. It rubs off. Imperceptibly.

Just an honest thought.
 
I work for an immoral company too…one that lies to its customers…and me being part of that, I am lying too…different kind of immoral than you are talking about here…but I feel like I am drowning in sin every time i walk through their door for my shift…I want to find another job so bad…but there is just nothing out there… 😦

I feel for you and I will pray for you too. Here is something that will help, the Miraculous Medal, one of Mother Teresa’s favorites.

The mother of Jesus spoke to sister Catherine Laboure in 1830 and here is what she said.

“Have a medal struck… All who wear it will receive GREAT graces; they should wear it around the neck. GRACES will ABOUND for persons who wear it with CONFIDENCE.”

Later Mary said, “… it must be given to the whole world and to every person.”

During this apparition, Mary’s hands had 3 rings on each finger. Each ring gave off
rays of colored light. A few rings did not. Mary said that the lights radiating from
the rings are graces that people ASK for. The rings that didn’t radiate she said
were graces not given because they were NOT asked for.

Have it blessed. Keep it on all all times. Wear her medal in her honor.

Then say, “Mary I am wearing your gift to me, and I am asking now for great graces which you promised to those who ask and believe in what you said.”
Trust her, she will deliver, because she will keep her promise.
Tell her the great grace you want is to work elsewhere to help you be what her son wants.
And remind her everyday that you want this great grace very much.
This medal is called miraculous, and the picture of Mary is “Our Lady of Grace”.
