Today 8-3-07 on EWTN, one of the priests started what he says will be a year-long “mantra” about the importance of WYD 2008.

It must be terribly expensive for a group of kids to go there for the event.

I grew up poor and have never attained affluence in my adult life, and I am insulted and offended when someone like this intentionally speaks selectively to a group of the audience, when so many will not have the opportunity to attend.

The implied premise that you have to go there to experience the Holy Spirit is false. There’s got to be some other reason for this priest’s intention of dunning us for a year over such a little thing.

I saw the EWTN coverage of WYD in Germany last year (was it?) and I thought the kids at the papal Mass were not orderly enough for the celebration of the Mass. Isn’t it hard to connect with the Mass in such a setting, which is more apropo of a rock concert?

What am I missing?
