I have been in a custody battle for my son with my athiest husband now for about 2 months. It hasn’t been good. He has 2.5 days with our son and our son is getting: anxiety, trouble sleeping, irritable, clingy, and he stopped learning words.

My fear is, that the courts want 1/2 custody meaning he gets less time with me. But I talked to others and for a one-yr-old this is normal time away.

I can’t talk to the dad because he is in a new age cult, and if I talk to him that means he has to share it with his mom, who then makes the decision for him. Actually ever since the divorce my ex has not been allowed alone with me— EVER. We have had no discussions, and on every single pick-up/drop off, he is present with a member of the cult.

I am wondering, is there anything I can do at this point? Everyone says to hire a lawyer, and I have one, a good one. But, spiritually speaking, is there a way I can pray for my son? He literally sleeps on top of me now, he is so upset, and if I told my ex about this he would turn it around in court, saying I am the bad one and that his son “sleeps on him” every night/etc.

I feel helpless. Also, just so you can get a bigger picture, my husband has driven me into poverty over the court proceedings. His parents are millionaires and are funding his lawyer.

Thanks,
Lily

What kind of cult are you talking about? If he’s involved in something really strange, then it might an issue for the courts…

Yes, it’s really strange, and I’ve come to believe that he has sex with his mom 😦

She dictates every law of his life, and she has mentioned to me before asking if they could “share a bed.” I have confronted my (ex) husband several times on this but he gets very angry and denies it, but I know from other ex-girfriends that the mom “waits outside” the bedroom door of her sons while they are having sex. I looked up incest on the internet, and it seems very much in keeping with that, very psychologically destructive.

I’ve made intentions to St. Jude, but I think my (ex) is a lost cause. I want my son to be religious/in the church.

You’ve let your attorney know about your suspicions of the sexual activity occurring at that house? If not, you need to do so as soon as possible. A private investigator might be in order here. I’d avoid any confrontations with my ex on this matter until talking with the attorney.

You must tell your attorney every detail of what is happening with your son and everything else you suspect is going on with your ex-husband, it could make a big difference in the custody decision. Pray to your son’s Guardian Angel to keep him safe and secure when you cannot be with him and a daily rosary for your husband; he needs all the help he can get from his Heavenly Mother.

Pray for your former mother-in-law. Tell your lawyer everything. Start counseling for both you and your son so that they can document the mood issues. Don’t engage your ex in conversation at all - he has a witness, you don’t.
