I think that you are getting confused as to what Mary’s words to Lucia actually were.

I have never read in the bible that we are supposed to face East when Christ returns.

I’m trying to find any credible info out there too on this red moon from the eclipse that will begin I guess in a few hours now …
But the other things mentioned relate, I believe to the 3 days of darkness when we will see our souls as God sees them. It is said to cover the windows and do not look out and do not go out, lest you die. Demons will try to trick us into thinking they’re our relatives and friends to get us to open the doors or go out, we are not to do either under any circumstances. It is also said that only blessed white candles will give light as there will be no power. Domestic outside animals will be kept safe in those homes that are in the state of grace, but pets should be indoors with us. I would suggest St. Benedict medals (blessed of course) over all windows and doors for any time of year. We are to pray the rosary during this time as we should be daily all the time anyway.
Jesus said we are to be aware of the signs of the times, but we don’t set dates of course or ‘test God’ by making the ‘signs’ more important than our love for Him.
I believe the best we can do is TRUST, PRAY and do PENANCE. There are MANY that will be horrifically shocked to see their souls as God does … we need to ask for grace for them NOW while there’s still time (as well as for ourselves). If we truly love our glorious Triune God, we have strength to get through anything He sees fit to help us through for His NameSake and the salvation of souls. “That all be saved and none be lost, every soul is worth the cost!”

Joel 2:10 says, “the sun and moon are darkened, and the stars no longer shine” and in verse 31, “The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and dreadful day of the Lord” (NIV; Isaiah 13:10). This verse is quoted in the Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24:29 and on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:20. Does this mean the moon actually turned to blood? Lunar rocks brought back from the moon do not show blood. This may refer to a lunar eclipse where the moon turns a blood red color, but a lunar and solar eclipse can not happen at the same time. It seems there is a combination of heavenly signs. Dark clouds covering the whole sky might be another explanation, but clouds dark enough to block the sun would completely block out the moon. There is an interesting passage in Pliny’s Natural History (Book II, X. 57) which states, “For the eclipse of both sun and moon within 15 days of each other has occurred even in our time, in the year of the third consulship of the elder Emperor Vespasian” which is the year 71 AD (LCL 330, 207).
When the moon rises just above the horizon, it may appear reddish-orange in color because of the thick atmosphere. In the ancient world the color of the moon when it rises was an important omen as seen from Ugaritic.

Ugaritic Literature
In 1978 a badly damaged text was discovered at Ras Ibn Hani near Ras Shamra. It contains several Lunar omens which say:

If the moon, when it rises, is red,
there will be prosperity [during] (that month).
[If] the moon, when it rises, is yellow-green
], the cattle will perish (COS 1997, 290; KTU 1.91).

Akkadian Literature
Mesopotamian Omen 16 says, “If there is an eclipse of the moon in Nisannu and it is red—prosperity for the people” (COs, 424). It seems that a red moon is good in the ANE but in the Bible it is associated with judgment.

**The reason for redness
**So why can you still see the moon during a total eclipse? It’s because some sunlight is still hitting it, and for that you can thank our atmosphere. Particles in the atmosphere cause the light rays coming from the sun to bounce around. Some are refracted, or bent. They get redirected through the atmosphere and out around behind Earth and onto the moon, which is blocked only from direct sunlight.
Thus, the moon is still visible in the sky. However, the refracted rays of sunlight doing the illuminating turn the moon a strange reddish. Or copper. Maybe rust.

That’s because of all the bouncing around those rays had to go through on their way through the atmosphere. The more atmosphere that sunlight travels through, the more the blue and green parts of the spectrum are scattered. That’s why sunrises and sunsets are yellow and pink and red. The low early or late sun, hitting the atmosphere at a shallow angle, has to fight through more atmospheric particles on its way to your eye, and the reddish wavelengths get through better.

I remember reading that scientists actually use the color of the moon during an eclipse to measure/anaylse the particles in Earth’s upper atmosphere somehow.

I thought the bible says to face the East, whereas in Mary’s message to Lucia, we are supposed to stay inside for 72 hours during the quake…I am confused. There was an eclipse of the moon this last tuesday…that made it red…(as is apt to happen then) (the Bible at times often special language in a symbolic way…it does not mean that the red moon one saw this week…means the end of the world)

Well, ma’am, that always happens. It’s called a lunar eclipse.

In an eclipse, the Moon does not completely disappear as it passes through the umbra because of the refraction of sunlight by the Earth’s atmosphere into the shadow cone; if the Earth had no atmosphere, the Moon would be completely dark during an eclipse. The red coloring arises because sunlight reaching the Moon must pass through a long and dense layer of the Earth’s atmosphere, where it is scattered. Shorter wavelengths are more likely to be scattered by the air molecules and the small particles, and so by the time the light has passed through the atmosphere, the longer wavelengths dominate. This resulting light we perceive as red.

This is where we need to exercise a bit of caution. The Third Secret of Fatima, as revealed by the Vatican, actually does not contain anything about apocalyptic scenarios or earthquakes or somesuch but rather:

I haven’t seen the picture but certain times of the year I see a very large very red moon when I drive to work, scary the first time you see it but then just accept it.

The bible does say that it will ‘turn to blood’ which could be different to just being red.

we are buried facing east, although priests are buried facing west so as to be facing their congregation when we all rise from the dead on judgement day. i’m not sure though if this is a compulsory thing are specific to Ireland or whenever possible. check out your own parish graveyard

Perhaps it will not surprise you to learn that only one Passover lunar eclipse was visible from Jerusalem while Pilate was in office. It occurred on April 3, 33 AD, the Day of the Cross.

Kepler’s equations indicate that the moon rose already in eclipse, already bloody, fulfilling Joel’s vision. Necessarily, this means that the eclipse commenced before moonrise. With software we can look below the horizon and see Earth’s shadow begin the eclipse. When we do, we find that at 3 PM, as Jesus was breathing his last on the cross, the moon was going to blood.
