I have been a Catholic for 26 years (since birth) and although I have fallen away for a period, I have always kept up with the goings on at my home Parish. This parish was approved of by my mother who was very devout and orthodox and so I do not believe there have been abuses there. But they do not offer TLM and this makes me wonder. Why are there those who believe the TLM is the only valid Mass? Are those who have received Sacraments in the “New Mass” at some kind of disadvantage? If the TLM is so much more important then why have I been unable to locate one?

I have already posted these kinds of questions elsewhere but I think they have been missed. This is really starting to worry me. I have only ever attended NO Mass, even one offered by the Pope as a baby. I have been to Masses at Lourdes and throughout Catholic France, Spain and Portugal. I have NEVER been to the Tridentine Mass nor seen one available. Does this matter? Am I less of a Catholic? What if I ought to be going to a TLM but have been unable to locate one?

Don’t let your faith be shaken by dissenting schismatics and sedevacanists. The new form of the Mass is valid. You’re not any less of a Catholic at all. Jesus is Really Present in the Eucharist. If you have any specific questions about any of the arguments made by the dissenters, just ask:thumbsup: .

I don’t know exactly what my questions are because I have never been to a TLM. There have never been any to go to. This is what worries me in a way. That there are no TLM’s and that everyone here has accepted the NO Mass and yet people online haven’t. Sorry I can’t be specific, but there have been so many threads about Communion in the hand and liturgical abuses that apparently wouldn’t have happened before the “new Mass”. I just started wondering that of the TLM is the better Mass why there aren’t any to go to and so on…

Theresa,

If I were you, I wouldn’t worry about it. Although I go to a Tridentine Latin Mass, it is just because it seems to be more sacred to me than than the NO. It is more of personal preference than any thought of one being better than the other.

Don’t worry about which Mass you attend. I attend both, and love both. If a Tridentine service becomes available for you to attend, then to satisfy your curiousity, go.

But no matter what anyone says, you’re no “less Catholic” by attending the Novus Ordo Mass than attending the Tridentine, and those who attend the Tridentine (no matter what some of them may say) aren’t any more Catholic than those who attend the N.O. Mass.

Hey, there are places in the world where one cannot attend Mass openly or receive Communion more than once a year–they’re no less Catholic than any of us either.

You’re not alone. Not too long ago, I didn’t even know that the Mass used to be different. Was completely unaware of the existence of the TLM, indults, SSPX, etc. At least 99% of Catholics are the same way. It’s only online that you find so much vocal, bitter and often misleading discussion about it. I’ve learned to ignore most of it. We have an indult TLM in our diocese now, which I attended once just to see what it was like (much like one might go to a museum). It was no big deal.

The TLM has been reduced to a museum church. What times do we live in. 😦

Are you located near any of these?

The Pope offered Mass as a baby? Wow, I knew he was precocious. . .

Thank you for TNT showing me the Latin Masses. I may be near the Birmingham ones shortly as I am looking to move back to that part of the country. At present, Leeds or Nottingham are the nearest; both are about 1 hour drive but no car:( but Birmingham will be reachable shortly. Unfortunately, for those of us who know so little about the TLM it may seem we view it in similar terms to a museum. I don’t think the poster meant offence, just that us newer Catholics sometimes feel like we are missing out on something and then when we get to do it maybe it seems over-hyped…

Geez…now the TLM is no big deal…the Mass is now like a museum and the Most Holy Sacrafice is just “no big deal”…look, I don’t agree with the schismatics, but at least they have reverence, love, and respect for what actually takes place during Mass…

As a convert, I can not believe what some cradle Catholics take for granted and just blow off like it is no big deal…what is our Faith coming to?

Teresas,
If I were you, I would review the missal before going. The first time I went I was totally lost:o After I went the second time and I knew what was going on, I was hooked. The High (sung) Mass is especially beautiful. Here’s a link that has the missal:

Well, this thread almost made it to 10 posts before the usual suspects found it and ruined it.

We’re entitled to our opinions. You guys only continue to reinforce them, whether you care or not.

I heard Latin Mass, as a kid. Only means I am just an old fogie, doesn’t indicate anything about my spirituality or catholicity one way or another.

You compared going to Mass as if you were going to a museum, even non-traditionalist can see that.

How about some perspective here, people? I attend the TLM every Sunday and Holy Day said by a wonderful FSSP priest. During the week, if I have a chance, I’ll attend the new Mass, usually at a beautiful church said by a devout old Monsignor. Sometimes, I’ll even attend a parish with the hand holders, lay people prancing all over the sanctuary and hideous OCP tunes. Since I’m working on my patience, I try not to let the nonsense distract me or anger me. It’s a slow process. :o

My point is, how many Catholics in, say, China would love the opportunity to attend FREELY and PUBLICLY any Catholic Mass? (Not that phony state-sponsored “Catholic” service) Why can’t the Traditionalists have their Mass and those who prefer the Pauline have their Mass and we just leave each other in peace? Why does their have to be a constant antagonism?

If things continue as they are, at some point, my friends (and I hope I’m long in my grave by that time) we may not have the freedom to attend any Mass in this country except those said secretly in basements and barns and such.

Don’t worry how other people worship. Just be glad you can worship as you choose. For the time being. :nope:

A big double AMEN to this. Don’t worry, be faithful!

I will say now for all to know, if in the future, God lead the next to walk in Peter’s shoes, to revert to the Mass as it it was before, or to some compromise in between, I will be the first to step into line with the Church. I am thankful for the totally undeserved privilege of receiving this most precious gift.

for the laity:
Always focus on our Savior, His presence and His sacrifice, not the details of the liturgy.

Thank you all so much for some very helpful answers. I agree perspective is necessary and that we should be grateful we can worship the Lord without fear and hiding. I will try to attend a TLM and will certainly research it first (thanks Genesis) and will decide for myself if it will be worth the extra travel. I guess I need to know what all the fuss is about (not meant in a negative way) so I know why there are those who dislike or outright condemn the only Mass I have ever witnessed.
