It’s like a lightbulb went off in my head today. Worry. Huh… such a funny word. I was listening to the bible online ([link=http://**www.biblegateway.com]www.biblegateway.com[/link] and Matthew 6:25-34 really hit home with me. This has to be one of the BIGGEST struggles for me in life.
Matthew 6:25-34 (Contemporary English Version)
25I tell you not to worry about your life. Don’t worry about having something to eat, drink, or wear. Isn’t life more than food or clothing? 26Look at the birds in the sky! They don’t plant or harvest. They don’t even store grain in barns. Yet your Father in heaven takes care of them. Aren’t you worth more than birds?
27Can worry make you live longer? [e] 28Why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow. They don’t work hard to make their clothes. 29But I tell you that Solomon with all his wealth [f] wasn’t as well clothed as one of them. 30God gives such beauty to everything that grows in the fields, even though it is here today and thrown into a fire tomorrow. He will surely do even more for you! Why do you have such little faith? 31Don’t worry and ask yourselves, “Will we have anything to eat? Will we have anything to drink? Will we have any clothes to wear?” 32Only people who don’t know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father in heaven knows that you need all of these. 33But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well.
Code:
34Don't worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today.
How true is vs.34? This passage has really spoken to me and I just wanted to share it. How many of us deal with this day in and day out? Especially those of us who live paycheck to paycheck? How many of us see those at church who get in their fancy cars and visit those in the congregation who have nice BIG houses and worry about where our next meal may come from or how we are going to pay for gas. One thing I am soooooooo learning is to trust in God for EVERYTHING… this includes gas money. My favorite verse is…
Numbers 23:19 (New Living Translation)
19 God is not a man, that he should lie.
He is not a human, that he should change his mind.
Has he ever spoken and failed to act?
Has he ever promised and not carried it through?
Just some inspiration that God has passed to me and I am passing it on to YOU… Can I get an AMEN? :)]

Well, I still worry even though the Scripture verse pops into my head. I pray that I wont worry but I still do!

But, I’ll have to say, AMEN because this will give me something to think about. Thank you.

It is a beautiful passage and a comfort!

Thank you singingbeauty.

I like this passage:

“Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 3:6-7

Still, for me, easier said than done…

When I first returned to the Church (20 years ago) this quickly became one of my life-verses. Little did I know I would still be struggling in much the same way for 20 years. But you know what? God has been faithful; I’ve never starved or been out on the street, my kids seem to be turning out fine, our health has been good, my wife and I are still very much in love, and I continue to grow in the Lord.

God is good. All the time.

Hi Singin! :yup:

I’ll give ya an AMEN!

You drove a stake right through my heart with those verses. Probably my most difficult struggle is how I deal with my wealth. Im not wealthy by American standards, but I can safely say that I have more money/assets than I need. I have slowly tried to conform myself to Christs example but I am pitifully weak. It is a blessing, however, to even be concerned about such a thing. I thank God for that. I continue to struggle and confess my failures…

I also love the Num 23:19 verse - it’s one I have memorized from my Efree bible study. Here it is in the NAB translation:

“God is not man that He should speak falsely, nor human that He should change his mind: Is he one to speak and not act? To decree and not fulfill?”

It’s linked with Lamentations 3:22-23

“The favors of the Lord are not exhausted - his mercies are not spent. They are renewed each morning - so great is his faithfulness.”

They are under the “Faithfulness” category of “Relying on God’s Resources”

Thanks for sharing…

I got this a while ago and I liked it so much I kept it:

1 PETER 5:7
7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about
what happens to you.

Probably the biggest temptation most believers face is the
temptation to worry.

What is worry? Worry is thinking that leaves God out. Worry is
the opposite of faith. Instead of expecting God’s help – you
expect the worst.

1 PETER 5:7
7 God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him.

The Bible has much to say about not worrying. Worry is not
appropriate for a child of God.

MATTHEW 6:32
32 Only people who don’t know God are always worrying about
such things. Your Father in heaven knows that you need all of
these.

PHILIPPIANS 4:6
6 Do not worry about anything. But pray and ask God for
everything you need. And when you pray, always give thanks.

SAY THIS: I will not worry. I will trust in God. He will take
care of me and everything that concerns me.

:amen:

St. Pio of Pietrelcina:"Pray, hope, and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful. "
