Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Kool & The Gang, and Boomtown Rats are certainly well-represented on this effort. Bono is certainly very recognizable in some of the lead vocals, and I think Boy George as well, but it’s so long since I’ve heard that song (thankfully) I can’t quite put some of the other voices to names. Like scanning my memory of it, I don’t remember Sting’s contribution.
certainly a lot of relics of the '80s. I’m a child of the '80s and I loved Duran Duran but I don’t remember the Boomtown Rats at all.

PS - do I recall this was directed at relief to famine in Ethiopia? Which I think is approximately half Orthodox Christians. Who certainly do know when Christmas time is, although it may be for them a couple weeks later than for us in the west!

The Boomtown Rats’ main claim to fame is that Bob Geldoff went on to organize Band-Aid/“Do They Know It’s Christmas.” As a fellow child of the 80s, as much as I loved the whole idea of all those celebrities coming together for a cause (even the one with all the Canadian artists, which nobody other than Anne Murray and Bryan Adams seems to remember), I read a while back that USA for Africa, etc. actually extended the famine by a good 7-8 years leading to thousands, if not tens of thousands more deaths. The main reason is that all the food went to the dictators who were starving out their people, which allowed them to stay in power longer and starve, torture and kill more people. Regardless, I still believe that we are the world, I know that it’s Christmas, and I will never, ever play Sun City.

Am I the only person who kind of likes “Wonderful Christmastime”? I mean, it’s not a good song really, but I don’t hate it. Somehow I didn’t realize that that one was John Lennon, but I guess I’d vote that since I actually knew it, unlike the other two (which were pretty bad as well).
Reminds me why I mostly just stick with Nat King Cole for my Christmas music.

I know that. I meant I didn’t know the one by Lennon was by Lennon. I did word that pretty badly.
Honestly, the McCartney song has never really bothered me. I was rather surprised to see all the hate for it on here.
