Would a visitor to a Russian-Catholic Church be welcome?

Yes, from what I gathered. Instead of saying “Body of Christ”, the priest says something like “May the servant of God ______ be…”

That’s nice…it feels more personalized. Why don’t they do it in the Latin Rite parishes more often?

In my old Latin Rite parish, the priest who knew me used to say my name when giving me Communion too.

Asking a priest to remember everyone’s name in a parish with several thousand families may not be that easy.

For the longest time the Russian Rite Catholics had the CSSR, and SJ (Redemptorist and Jesuits) who had faculties to celebrate in the rite as the shortage of priests after Russia fell to Communism was so grave.

Also it should be added that the Congregation of Marian Fathers (MIC) also greatly assisted the Russian Catholic Church. The last living Exarch of the Russian Catholic Church, +Andrei (Katkoff) was an MIC. There were also Dominicans who assisted the Russian Catholics (Fr. Peter Knowles of blessed memory) and a Capuchin also assists the Russian Catholic parish in San Fransisco.

Yes.
I’m rarely a visitor other than at an Orthodox church where I wouldn’t be taking Eucharist anyway, but I would just say my name when I approach the priest for Eucharist if I were visiting and I not introduced myself already to the deacon or priest before hand. For some reason I thought that was the thing to do. Now I’m not sure why I thought that… What do people usually do, Deacon?

Currently an RC priest, Father Vito, is apprenticing (I’m sure there is another word for it) under Father Eugene at the SF church so he, Father Vito, can become a bi-ritual priest in the diocese and serve in another ECC parish. I think he’s very brave to have not had a background in the Divine Liturgy and take on this learning and this life. Bless him! And bless the Archbishop for his efforts to support the ECC.
