I’m a new member to Catholic Answers although I listen on the radio all the time. I was doing some research about a fundraising idea I had and was led here to this site, so I decided to write a little, “what do ya’ll think” post? I’m from the South, if it wasn’t apparent.🙂
Anyway, I own a manufacturing/design company that makes Catholic jewelry. I have an idea but I can’t decide if I just think it’s a good idea or is it really? I would like to create a custom medallion representing a school’s name, patron saint, motto, mission, etc and then offer it in a simple piece of jewelry or key chain. I don’t want it to be expensive to sell, so I’m thinking a beaded stretch bracelet with nice stones, not plastic and a nice quality plated custom designed medal, not the inexpensive generic 10 cent medals. I would offer this as a customized fundraiser for Catholic Schools. My company would design 2 or 3 pieces of jewelry or key chain with the retail price of $10, $15 and $20. If we kept it at this pricepoint, I could afford to give 30% of the profit to the school. Without seeing what they would look like, but I promise, they would be nice, do you think this is a good idea or not? I love my Catholic Schools and would love a way to give back. My children have gone to Catholic school all there life. I was widowed with very small children and the tuition assistance from fundraising has always helped my family. I couldn’t have done it without it. I really need some (name removed by moderator)ut from everyday Catholics to tell me if they would buy something like this. I have been praying about my idea and would really appreciate feedback. Thank you and God Bless you and your family.

I may not be the best one to answer this…since I really don’t like these kinds of fundraisers in general…I’d rather just give the 10 bucks directly instead of 70 percent of it going to someone else…but that is just me…Overall these things are popular for a reason.

Now that I got the vent out of the way…

They would probably like the idea very much.
Don’t know how well it might compete with the candy fundraisers but it would be different and might work well around the holiday shopping season.

Just my thoughts…

Peace

I think it’s a very good item because it is custom. Also, it makes a gift that lasts, unlike the usual fundraisers; cookies, candy, popcorn, calendars, candies, etc.

I would run it by the school board and see what they have to say.

If you could do the school emblem or seal, they would go for it. When I worked for the schools that all wanted custom banners with their logos, and they were ridiculous to get digitized. The key rings, and other items would sell well.
We ordered cases of mugs to give to visitors…there’s a need for a “gift” item for schools.

Make a few samples, create a flyer, and send to some Catholic schools.

May I also suggest one with an RCIA theme?

Thank you so much for the reply. I’m going to market it and see what happens. God Bless!!
