Would I be partaking in sin if I accept this job?

Some of you might remember me mentioning that I lost my job of 5 years with a wonderful physician that had a stroke. He will not be able to return, and my last day was December 20, 2004.

I desperately need to get back to work, because unemployment does not pay the bills. Thank goodness that we recently re-financed our home and saved a bundle, so we have been able to manage pretty good.

Now, I interviewed with a Woman’s Specialty clinic on Friday, and I feel very certain that I will be offered the job. The Administrator that interviewed me said that he will call on Wednesday when he returns to town.

This clinic sees patients with pregnancy-related problems such as gestational diabetes, pregnancy where a child may have a congential defect, etc. They also treat ovarian cancer with chemo in their clinic. Now, that is o.k., but what I am concerned with is the fact that this clinic does perform in vitro fertilization.

From the Catechism I gather that in vitro fertilization is an unacceptable procedure and an unnatural act, especially when you use donor sperm or eggs. Now, I did not ask, so I don’t know if they use donor sperm or eggs. They may only use a sperm and an egg from the couple, but I don’t know that.

I know that I could **never **work in an abortion clinic, and this clinic does not perform abortions, but is in vitro fertilization something that should keep me from accepting this position?

I would appreciate your view about this job. Please respond by Tuesday, so I will know how to handle the situation by Wednesday if the opportunity presents itself. I don’t want to be there if it is not God’s will, but I especially don’t want to be contributing to something that is wrong, either.

God bless,

Honey it sounds like you have already answered your own question. Those doubts you have are “the still small voice”. That being said, I do know how hard it can be for us to simply trust that God’s plan is perfect for us and He will provide.

Prayers for you and blessings as you struggle with your decision.

Thank you Susan. You are probably right. Why is “the still small voice” so hard for us to accept? I recently was in a discussion about whether I should have gone through an annulment or not, because the internal forum was used.

I talked with a priest at the marriage tribunal and he assured me that the first step should have been an anulment, and only if this fails, is the internal forum to be used.

I was granted an anulment in 30 days. I got my letter Friday, but my husband will take a little longer, but I must say that listening to that little voice and talking with the priest made me feel so much better, even more so now. Although, my sponser told me that I worry too much. It was not really so much about worry, although I was, it was about doing the right thing.

Thank you Susan

Hi Brenda! 😃 Good to see you again!
I think that I have to agree with Susan, but I would recommend that you take your conscience to see your priest or give him a call. This might also be a good question for you to post to the AAA forum for Fr. Serpa to answer.

😃 When CM agrees with me I am honoured, he is someone who is very knowledgeable. And he is right on, do seek counsel with your priest/confessor…you’ll feel more settled.

Yes darling, it can be hard to listen to the still, small voice…but what joy when we do. I am finding it slightly easier as time goes on, but boy oh boy can I fight it when I really really want something. Of course God always always wants what is best for us…even though we can’t see the whole picture we have to trust that it is a masterpiece.

Blessings

Susan

I think guidance on these kinds of personal questions should come from your priest, not strangers on a forum, although we may be able to help by our testimony of what happened to us in similar circumstances.
