Would it be a sin if I didn't accept this oppurtunity?

I’m 15 and earlier today I was volenteering at the stables as i do every week during the summer this summer and last summer, any way, I was talking to this girl who’s the same age as me, who’s quite devout. I mentioned that my parents don’t take me to Church often, although sometimes we go because the extended family is like easter or when my grandpa asks to, and lately my dad has been taking me sometimes, I don’t know why, I think it might be so I have an excuse to drive, (I hope to get my permit soon, and he wants me to start learning now, I live in the country so theres alot of road space.) But anyway, she asked if I recieve communion and I said no. She said it was a mortal sin to miss Mass, i said I knew that but I considered that my parents sin, not mine. (my mom was raised methodist and isn’t even baptized, and my dad was raised in a very Catholic home but fell away when he went to college and thinks all religions are man-made. He still beleives in God, but I guess he doesnt follow any organized religon.) I said I abstain for other reasons. She offered for her mom or her friends mom or something (don’t really remember what) that would take me. I said no, I plan to go when I can drive wether anyone else in my family wants to go or not. She said that now that I’m being offered a chance to go I’d be commiting sin by not going. the thing is I’m reluctant because I barely know her, and it sort of seems weird to me, (I have aspergers syndrome and social situations can be difficult for me sometimes, idk if that has anything to do with it, but maybe I just don’t like things like this because of that?) So am I commiting sin by not taking this chance?

I think it would likely be a venial sin to miss Mass when one clearly has an opportunity to go. Maybe even a mortal sin. I definitely recommend that you go.

Well missing Mass without a serious reason is a mortal sin, but does that apply in this case? I’m hesitant to accept, I barely know her, and I’ve never met these people she’s talking about.

Hello bacon man
You are 15yrs old and developing into an adult which means you are responsible for your own actions. You can no longer blame your parents for not taking you to mass. You say you already realise this is a sin to miss mass,so therefore you are fully aware you are committing sin by your in action.
Its great that you are learning to drive and would like to drive yourself to mass but you have been offered a lift and refused because you dont like social situations.I understand my friend and more importantly so does God .He knows our innermost thoughts we cannot pull the wool over His eyes.It does not matter what excuses we make to ourself God knows better. Also you say in your original post you were offered Holy communion at home is this correct? If so to refuse is to deny your opportunity of receiving Our Blessed Lord which we need to nourish our soul and renew our faith.
It has been difficult for you with your background of mum being methodist and Dad not practising regularly as a catholic. You have not been set good ground rules but now you can do better. You can pray for your Dad and mum and show them by YOUR example the correct way to live.
I think you should pray to God (He hears us always)ask Him for strength and courage to accept this offer of a lift to mass until such times as you can get there independently. Also i strongly suggest you make an appointment to speak to your priest confide in him how you feel in social settings etc he will be a great source of information and support.
I will pray for you my friend God Bless

It’s not so much because of social situations, but because I barely know her, I’m just hesitant. I never said I was offered communion at home, I said I abstain for other reasons, not because my parents never take me to Mass, though now I’m definatly considering her offer, I’ll probably tell her next week when I see her again.

Oh bacon man i am so pleased for you that you are going to accept the lift to attend mass.Im sorry if i msiunderstood some of what you said but my prayers have been answered in regards to your soul that you will be accepting the lift.Well done my friend and i know it will be difficult to begin with as you dont know the person very well but God will be with you guiding you all the way.Trust in the Lord He is with us always.
I also note Fr.Vincent Serpa also answered your question.

God bless you always my friend

I know how you feel Baconman. I used to have to nag my parents all the time to take me to Mass, but then I finally got my license and now I just go alone. Listen, try as much as you can to tell your parents that this means a lot to that you go. If they do take you, great if they won’t then it’s not your fault. Priests will also encourage you to think ahead and try to get your friends to give you a ride too. In the end though you can only do what you can do.
