I was at adoration today, and as I was working on staying focused, at several times I started saying the Jesus Prayer to help me contemplate.

I know that praying the Chokti is different from saying the Rosary. But I’m wondering about purchasing a Chokti and using it to help me focus on my meditations and contemplations. If I did use it like that, would that be an acceptable use of the Chokti?

Yes. Adoration is a time to bathe in the mercy of Christ. The Jesus Prayer, the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, even an Akathist would be appropriate.

And other times of contemplation would also be an appropriate time to use the Chokti as an assistance in meditation?

Yes, that would be a fine use of it. It will probably even help you as with a Chotki, there is no counting as there is during a Rosary; it’s a constant invocation.

It is always appropriate to pray using the chotki, particular in adoration. We are to “pray without ceasing” and this is a spiritual tool to assist us in accomplishing this endeavor. I would highly recommend reading “The Way of a Pilgrim” to help explain this concept. It is available free on Amazon if you have a kindle and only a few dollars if you want a hard copy.

The chotki is a private devotional item.

As such, there is no such thing as an “unacceptable” way to pray with it.

The only devotions which have set in stone rules to them are Liturgical. Outside of Liturgy in the realm of private devotion, essentially anything goes.

I agree with everybody else. This is a very good way to enter into contemplation.
