I would give mine up BUT the solution for you is to get to Church early-I do.
Have you ever tried to get a 3-month old baby ready to get anywhere early? It ain’t always that easy. :nope:

How many of you would give your seat in church to an elderly person or a woman with a baby in arms?
I’m just curious. I arrived on time for mass the other day, but church was packed, and I stood throughout while several young men sat a couple of feet from me. Granted, I’m not decrepit, but am old enough to be their grandmother. So i just wondered if my church is typical.
I did see a young woman with a baby who got to sit. 🙂
I will and would give my seat up for anyone, be they disabled, elderly, or not.

Easter and Christmas masses are usually very packed and we need to leave very, very early to get a seat. One Easter my family arrived just in time for the mass. I was pregnant for my son 8 months long (very big) plus my two girls 6yrs and 4yrs. I stood through the whole mass. No one offered me or my family a seat and it was obvious that I was pregnant. When mass was over I left the church with the worst back pain ever. So, now if I see anyone pregnant or elderly I always offer my seat because I know what it is like to stand.

I really have not thought of it as I sit in the middle of the pew as an able bodied person. The ends should be for the elderly, disabled and families with small shildren otherwise move in. Some people defend their space like Texans at the Alamo - most uncharitable. And for me to move would cause alot of unnecessary commotion by me asking ten people to move so one person can ask the same ten to move also. Our ushers are good about making people move in and if need be asking able bodied people to stand if need be.

Now the only time I sit at the end of the pew at Mass on Sundays is when I read as that is what we have been told to do.

I agree. It wouldn’t work for everyone, but in a practical sense it will work for any one person who tries.

In my case, my seats are always reserved so I don’t have to worry about it. If I gave my seat up to someone they’d need to know how to play a keyboard. 😛

That was the best thing about being in Bell Choir-I always had a reserved seat right next to the altar!

Absolutely, I would gladly do so, unless the Mass has already started. Once the Holy Mass starts, I only pay attention to what’s going on up at the alter.

Oh that it would be so crowded that there would be no room in the pews and they’d have to break out folding chairs, or have people (men and women) give up their seats for those who can better use them!!! But no, we usually have enough room to stuff everybody, even on major feasts- although sometimes people have to break up from their family or group.
