I chose all of the above… though the “Simply” Part should be removed from simply mislead and extreme.

These people are obvious and glaring. I’m more concerned about more cloaked heretics.
As am I, brother. However, they still teach false doctrine and by extension a false Christ and therefore are evil. But I don’t think they’re reaching anyone.

Please note discussion of the WBC should remain charitable and intellectual. We are Christians and many of these people deserve our prayers.

There should be an Other option:

Getting too much publicity on this site.

I said:

  1. *]a church with cult-like tendencies, if not a cult.
*]hatemongers, small-minded, prejudiced, anti-everything, and most definately corrupt
    *]attention-seeking
I did not choose “Simply mislead and extreme” because being mislead is not simple and extreme is covere under the other choices.

    PF

  1. I think they are attention-seeking, and extreme.

For this kind of issue, the “Hitler test” is useful - he couldn’t stand homosexuals either, but that doesn’t make him a Christian (this is said without any assumptions as to his post-mortem state, which is God’s business & not ours). It’s a matter of record that the Reich got rid of between 10,000 & 15,000 homosexuals - though that figure *might *be read as showing nothing worse than single-minded determination to wipe out activities which were as objectionable to Christians as to Nazis. (One of the criticisms the German Catholic bishops made against Nazism was that it tolerated homosexuality in the Hitler Youth).

Hating homosexuality is therefore perfectly compatible with not being Christian. To be Christian, specifically Christian qualities are needed, such as love of neighbour for the sake of Christ. And it is not clear that homosexuals (who are among our neighbours, even if we ourselves are not homosexuals) are being shown love at that site. Maybe they are - though it would be easy to pick up the contrary impression.

What is clear, is that sites like that are liable to reinforce the Christophobia of some people, homosexual or not. OTOH, the WBC is only saying out loud, and very emphatically, what other Christians have often said before them; they can’t simply be dismissed as an inexplicable aberration from who knows where. They are expressing attitudes which already exist - and are turning up the volume & emphasising doctrine relating to that type of conduct alone; rather than integrating the doctrine & behaviour of Christians in regard to it into the rest of what they profess as Christians. ##
