I’m somewhat ambiguous on the matter. I haven’t noticed the issue since the pandemic was the news. When I was allowed to church for mass in a long time, I noticed a BLM yard sign on church yard. I didn’t expect it but was apathetic. How would you feel if you saw a BLM yard sign at church? BTW, I’m not outing any churches. Just want to hear people’s thoughts.

Some people think it’s political. Maybe it is. I think there’s a bit of BLM that is political, or a group has used it in that way (ie; to try to get certain parties and ideologies ahead).

But Black Lives DO Matter, and the true Church is as Pro-Life as they come.

Maybe most BLM protests seem to be advocating for more than just equality (some seem to verge on black dominance), but I am also seeing stories out of US and my own country (Canada). People have been killed and beaten in police altercations for petty theft and acting rowdy. To me, that’s not okay no matter what races are involved. No one deserves to die for passing one counterfeit bill, even if it’s wrong to do so. If we can shed some light on the violence in our world, we should do so, even if we have to start with just one group.

Some say “all lives should matter”. They should, but I think we’re smart enough to connect one group’s suffering with the suffering of all people. We’re smart enough to say “I don’t want anymore violence period, so I have to fix it all, and I can START with this”. We’re smart enough to say “There’s enough compassion to go around”.

So as long as it’s just a sign, with a TRUTHFUL meaning, and we don’t start hearing about our collection money going to protests, I would be okay with a sign.

Often the thought “Black Lives Matter”, which can be reduced to the acronym “BLM” is confused with the political activist group “Black Lives Matter (BLM)”…There is a huge difference, and perhaps the charitable thought of Black Lives Matter is being confused with the politics of an organized movement…I can’t speak with certainty, but my hunch is your church is talking about the charitable and not political thought.

I expect if my parish put up the sign I’d sigh, suppress a momentary feeling of alienation, and make a jocose remark to my spouse about “the sign ministry”. (The context for that is the local Baptist church went on campaign of evangelization thru little slogans on their service times sign. We assume the person passed or moved on, since it suddenly ended).

I think it’s a bad idea. I belong to the CATHOLIC CHURCH, not the Church of the latest “woke” political movement.

When was the last time you donated money to a First Nations Reserve? Don’t be telling other people about “systematic racism”, if you’re not doing anything to ensure equality.

I’m not sure where I claimed that systematic racism does or does not exist?
I believe in equality for all people…

Could you clarify your question for me?

I never said that I was seeing systematic racism in the news I witnessed. I’m just seeing a lot of altercations on all racial fronts in my province lately where it looks to me as if excessive force is used by law enforcement in the name of “we’re the good guys”.

I just think we need to value life more in a time when we seem to be losing so many lives…

I meant no offence
