On the feast of Corpus Christ, John Paul II announced a “Year of the Eucharist” that the Catholic Church will observe from October 2004 to October 2005.

I’d like to suggest to our pastor some special devotions for our parish during this special year of graces.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

During the special Jubille Year, (under a different pastor) our parish did Nothing. Zip, zilch, nada. I didn’t realize all the wonderful parish activities that others were celebrating and observing, until it was too late!

Not this time: I want to be prepared to fully observe this wonderful year, and assist to my pastor any ways in which we as a parish family can focus more on the Blessed Sacrament.

We had a meeting of several parishes who have perpetual adoration recently and compared notes - got some great ideas… One parish plans to kick off the year in October with a night of reflection - Benediction, a talk on the Eucharist by the pastor and then a social night for adorers in the parish hall - maybe some witness stories will be shared - or just the joys of adoration.

We plan on closing the year with a formal Eucharistic procession with the large canopy and flower girls dropping rose petals before the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament as we process around the grounds of our parish. I can send more info to people who are interested. We will probably need a new “umbrillino” made - it is a large fabric canopy that is carried by four people by the 4 wooden poles that support it. I have photos of the procession that we had when our chapel opened - awesome!

I am looking forward to others sharing their ideas. We were blessed to have an awesome Jubilee Year - we were a pilgrim church and many came for the Jubilee indulgence. We even built a Holy Door - much like the original at St. Peter’s.

Praised be Jesus!

Have you seen the beautiful and very new website to highlight the Year of the Eucharist? It even has a forum to post questions and ideas for celebrating the year. It is very small still but has great potential! yearoftheeucharist.com/

Here is an idea from one of our committee - we haven’t made firm plans to do this yet but we feel like it is a great idea and will promote it as we get closer to October —
May I suggest to the Adoration Committee that there be a planning session or two established to set forth a calendar of special monthly Eucharistic Adoration Centered events/themes for the 10/04 through 10/05 year. Publish the calendar of monthly themes in the bulletin and ask for special sign ups for adorers to dedicate their hours to these themes and for non adorers to participate (no strings attached).
i.e. an organized calendar (on a poster in the Chapel Foyer) (another poster on parish bulletin board) with special sign ups to participate in one or more of these 12 monthly themes with coordinating special prayers. I’ll be happy to lend my writing skills to help with this.

A month for:

Father/Child Adoration
Mother/ Child Adoration
Family Adoration
Men’s Adoration
Women’s Adoration
Teen Adoration
Children’s Adoration
Husband/Wife Adoration
Dating/Adoration
Adoration with a friend
