Yet another Bible Translation. The "Recovery" Bible

Very impressive.
they have “recovered” the true Bible with the true doctrines such as Martin Luther’s doctrine of justification… It says something like that on their website!

At first the translation did not appear as bad.
The footnotes did not seem as bad neither, I looked up James for faith and works, nothing too bad. I checked Revelation for the anti-Christ, they said it was Nero… nothing bad
But then I went for their (anti-Catholics) favorite verses, and there I found that this is yet another anti-Catholic Protestant Bible.
It was in Revelation when they are speaking about the Whore of Babylon.

Yet their interpretation makes no sense bcause they say that the anti-Christ will hate the harlot “who is the Roman Church”

anyways.
does anyone know where to find VERY cheap or free Catholic Bibles?
All the ones I’ve stumbled upon are Protestant, though they usually do not have annotations nor footnotes, so it’s not so bad.
 
is it just me, but does it seem that the same folks who deny the Catholic Church of today is the one founded by Christ, which existed from Pentecost also identify her as the WofB? If she didn’t exist, how could she be the WB?
 
There are so many historical inaccuracies on this single page advertisment for this Bible, one hardly knows where to start. Suffice to say, if that is any indication of the bias and polemnical nature contained in that Bible, it’s a good one to keep in mind to recommend AGAINST, if anyone ever asks. Much like the MacArthur Study Bible. :rolleyes:

Used book stores are your best bet. You can find a pretty nice Catholic one for $4 to $8. Also, check your local parish. Many parishes keep a large supply of “house Bibles” for catechesis and they might be willing to part with some of them that are a little more dog-eared or of a previous edition. If a person is truly needy, they would probably just give one to them.
 
J1Priest, in re. your Catholic bible question – if you live anywhere near a Pauline Books & Media (locations), go check them out. Otherwise, the Internet’s probably your best bet.

Pauline carries many cheap Catholic bibles – unfortunately the cheaper ones don’t have quality notes (if any).

I second Fidelis’s used book store option as well.

Goodwill stores usually have many different versions of the Bible available in their (used) book sections. Usually for a dollar or two.

I have found the NAB version there before.
 
I know of a “Recovery Bible” as an NIV version with brief meditations written by laymen/women for people in recovery from addiction. There is a series of Protestant Bibles written for target groups with these kinds of meditations, e.g. the Women’s Bible, the Men’s Bible, and the Couples Bible. That’s what I thought this thread was referring to.

**Like you, Linda, I thought this thread referred to those specialty bibles for people interested in addiction recovery. At this point I have found 4 such Protestant Bibles.
Perhaps another thread can focus on these if there is such interest.

Uggg, ANOTHER schismatic heretic… this is the mentality that kills:

This prophecy is being fulfilled through the Lord’s recovery (meaning their movement), in which the building of the genuine church is being accomplished.” (Implying that it isn’t occurring elsewhere). In fact it is call the “Recovery” because they claim to be trying to recover the subjective experience of Christ which they seem to think was lost from the rest of the Christian community. And I find that the preaching during the assembly very commonly criticizes other churches, but not their own.

Then again, I have a similar accusation against many other churches who treat dogmatic teachings of their own founders or leaders as if they represented Biblical truth and have an unBiblical condescending elitist attitude towards other legitimate churches and Christians attending other churches. However, what is particular disturbing is when their opinions are far contrary to Biblical truth

But what about when Jesus said that the gates would not prevail against the church. With their attitude they think that the church has failed and that THEY are the ones who can only help with their so called superior preaching and interperatation.Yea, and another 20,000 protestant denominations claim the same thing… What arrogance and pride. The ECF were right about because who schism for vainglory and pride.

When will blatant division ever end? God dosen’t need a human to fix his church… Does the Holy Spirit error?? I bet Satan is laughing his head off…

Pure example of people conforming the bible to what they want it to be… Rather than following the bible for what it truely is… The fruits of protestantism are shown

I have a Recovery Version – have only read a little of it and didn’t realize that it was so anti-catholic. For just reading, though, it’s ok, and I use the reading plan that came with it in as a supplement to the daily mass readings.

Thanks for all the info here, as well as on another thread on the Recovery Version Bible.

I have a friend, who earlier on in our relationship (like, 18 yrs ago), criticized the Catholic Church beliefs (Mary is not the Mother of God) in an offhand way. She knew our family was Catholic, though dh was not at that time. I didn’t really know how to respond, except I knew about Dulia and Latria.

And sometimes she’d say something against ‘doctrine’, and mentioned Constantine (but did not go into why). That got me really started in apologetics. I read Catholicism and Fundamentalism by Karl Keating and realized that her group is fundamentalist. She later admitted she is a fundamentalist. They also think ‘Religion’ is unnecessary; just be with the Lord. However - and I found this most interesting - they believe in the True Presence of Jesus in communion. I hope I can find out if they use the term ‘Eucharist’.

SO - recently I wanted to find out whether this Bible version has all 73 books in it, and this thread has answered that, and also where the anti-Catholicism comes from. My friend firmly believes her sect (I presume, Living Stream Ministries) IS The Church, which is what she calls it. I know they have a convention in California and also a campus in TX.

I believe God has been preparing me all these years to witness to my friend, who really is in need of a Friend at this time, and pray I will be ready to say what needs to be said, to witness to her in charity and with agape love.

It is hard for us to talk about beliefs, though, since she doesn’t want to create strife (and neither do I). I suppose she is not prepared to.

Lord, grant us all a most Blessed and grace-filled Holy Week and Easter!
