Gambling is very addictive and folks need to b very aware that it is very easy to get caught up in the something for nothing mentality.
You can NOT beat the casino in the long run, the more you bet and longer you play, the more you will lose.
You can get lucky in the very short run SOMETIMES (and I emphasize sometimes because MOST times you will lose in the short run also), and that is what gives us the appeal and that is what makes it very tempting.
That being said, I might add that I love to gamble… BUT I hate to lose even more. The latter is what keeps me in control at least most times. I’ve gone on a gambling vacation ( 3 or more days) 3 times in the last ten years and I’ve gone on a one day bus trip to a casino 4 times in the last 10 years.
I’ve lost overall on every trip, (you would think I would have learned my lesson by now). Most times just a few dollars, and a few times a couple of hundred dollars. AS far as vacations go, I’ve spent less on gambling than I have at a resort or than at an amusment park.
In that sense gambling is cheaper but potentially each gambling trip could have turned out to be a disaster. I only gamble with whatever cash I bring, and I stick to very inflexible budgets per day and per trip. I never bring checks and I never pull out a credit card or a bank card.
Not everyone can be so disciplined and that is why these huge hotels are built up almost every year. And I realize that everytime I go, I too can be tempted to lose control. The best way to avoid this is not to go.
Sometimes, I can go for years without setting foot into a casino…but other times, like this year I’ve been twice And of course loss both times.
