I have quit smoking pot many times with no withdrawal what so ever nor did I have insomnia. If you are dealing with these things and if other people are too it is not because of the pot they are smoking, it is because of a deeper issue that has been left un-resolved. Now if you were mixing tobacco with your pot them absolutely yes! all of that can and will happen. I quit smoking tobacco 4 years ago and it was tuff. I quit smoking weed for a year and it was nothing. Quitting alcohol was hard (which I don’t drink anymore) but as for weed no.As somebody who used to smoke cannabis for 4 years and used to think it was harmless, I’ll explain why I’d like to disagree!
In Europe we mix cannabis with tobacco, so it has all the risks of cigarettes mixed into a joint as well but even when smoking cannabis alone through a bong or pipe, it still has mental health issues. Cannabis had this addictive illusion of a peace of mind which wasn’t always peaceful, sometimes it would make me paranoid, not paranoid in the sense of wearing a tin foil hat in case the government is trying to read my mind but paranoid in a different way. I’d sit there freaking, my heart racing and felt as if my brain was floating if that makes sense? Sometimes it felt like my brain was lying on the comfiest pillow in the world, I enjoyed it though, I enjoyed it because it was different, I couldn’t go through a day without feeling like this even if the high only last 5 minutes. It leaves you feeling like you’re smarter than you were, like you’ve discovered some profound spiritual insight but it’s wrong, it’s a false thing. It makes you shrink inside yourself, it is desirable in a certain way and that’s probably why people do it but eventually, you can’t function in the real world without getting high and at the same times, probably killing brain cells.
Honestly, ask somebody to quit smoking cannabis. They’ll say they’ll do it tomorrow or that it isn’t addictive at all and they basically won’t give it up, because they’re addicted. I remember going through months of insomnia when I gave it up because all the problems I attempted to hide, they came back to me because they were always there in the first place, I just found a way of ignoring them and brushing them to the side.
I definitely put my faith in a plant back then and it betrayed me in the end with a promise of feeling good but then when it was gone, I felt bad again. I know Rastafarian’s smoke it religiously but it’s part of their religion, unless you’re a Rasta or unless you’re even prescribed it medically which very few people are because very few places in the world accept this medically, there’s absolutely no point in it unless you’re attempting relive the glory days of liberal hippies!
Weed, tobacco, alcohol, are all bad if you put your faith in them thinking that they will fix your life and make you feel good all the time. Then it is a mortal sin, its a form of idolatry. When we put any created thing above our responsibility to serve and worship God it is idolatry. How many people you know basically worship alcohol? But where it is okay to indulge in these (venial pleasures) is when we have our minds set on God and his Glory and love and occasionally when you are resting (which is good in moderation) we can use them.
It is not what goes into the body that makes you unclean, it is what comes out. Isn’t that how we justify drinking? eating pork? smoking? Sure if these things are taken too much they can become bad, but too much of anything can become a great evil.
Also what I have seen is that there are a great deal of GOOD people who smoke. But because they smoke we judge them as ignorant, lazy, dumb, and pass them by. Do you think that is what Christ would have done?
