So a friend on Facebook found this on the door, so he posted it to mock it more efficiently.

Our exchange is reproduced below.

Found on door. Lets play…“Find the grammatical errors that detract from your message!”

‎"…and He sees you as a lying, thief, and a blasphemer." I win!

Eh … that’s a classic technique of dimestore apologetics, the ol’ “draw them in with something completely unrelated and unexpected so you at least get their attention.” Whenever you’re ready for something headier, let me know.

thanks for the offer. but i happen to believe that if am a good person and never stop striving to be a better person, that should be enough for any god, and it certainly good enough for me.

You have one sentence to reply. What do you write?

I believe that it doesn’t matter how “good” I am, I can only rely of the saving grace of of Jesus Christ and my relationship with him.

I’m not sure that would help him, as true as it is.
hmmm…

I usually start with “Good by whose standards? Did you know that Hitler actually thought he was a good person by doing what he was doing?”

We should be trying to enlarge our understanding in order to strive for His perfect standards of goodness, not trying to claim our woefully inadequate, limited, and even downright ‘wrong’ ideas of being ‘good’ are somehow superior to His infinite justice and mercy.

More like what I was thinking, but I’d rather not bring Hitler into it. The guy I’m talking to already has a prejudice against believers as being idiots, and so reductio ad Hitlerum will only ruin my cachet.

I did consider making an ad hominem, something along the lines of: “So mocking believers makes you a good person?”

I don’t know if that would qualify as an ad hominem or not, but it may actually qualify as begging the question. I’m not too good any more with these logical falacies.

Hmmmmmmm. . .

Jesus was good enough for God - how closely do you approximate HIM?

?

And then Buddha and St. Paul kinda glance at each other, and St. Paul says, “You wanna tell him, or should I?”

'Cause the only two real contenders for “true religion” are agreed, just “being good” or “striving to be better” ain’t enough.

points to instructions “Found on door.” That’s a crime against the English language right there.

P.S.

Tell your Facebook “friend” he’s got a lot to go before playing Grammar Nazi.

A person who is honest, has never stolen anything, and has never taken the Lord’s name in vain would remain utterly unchallenged by the message of the three dollar bill (a deception, or lie, in itself).

I’d say he’d be only bolstered in his unbelief by this approach. Which is sort of the problem.

We are all called to evangelize — this damfool evangelization doesn’t bloody work. That is, if has any positive effect, it will be because God is a genius at working with even the greatest evil to create an even greater good.

Hello
Well, in this case there is no way to explain-all you can do is pray because faith is not a skill learned in any educational setting it is a gift from god and if this person has not been "gifted" with faith yet; then maybe prayer will open their heart.

So Found on door. Lets play…“Find the grammatical errors that detract from your message!”

‎"…?
Although tragic, there’s good news.
wha?

also I don’t see any message on the bill except “this is not legal tender”.
