I have evangelical friends who say

“you like the catholic church and I like a different christian church, we are all christains”

When I talk about the catholic church

In my head I think not really I like all of Jesus.
I also think there are plenty of things I don’t like about the catholic church like heretical priest that are allowed to continue teaching, but it’s the church Jesus founded so here I am because I love Jesus.

What should I say to my evangelical Friends the next time they say this

Christ does tell us that where two or three are gathered in His name, He is there in the midst of them. This much is definitely true. But if I were to go along with your friend’s little food example (apples and oranges)… he drinks only soda, you drink the water of life. All he gets is the fun and bubbles and sugar… Sure, that may hydrate a little bit, but YOU get the full hydration and nourishment, life-sustaining nutrition and health from water. It might not be as fun as a soda, but it is so very much better for you!

Just an idea. :o

This is a GREAT analogy! “All he gets is the fun and the bubbles and the sugar…” I hear so many times people saying they go to this church or that church because the music is good, or they have great fellowship opportunities. Well, I’ll take my Lord and savior, body, blood, soul and divinity over good music any day!

Tell them the truth. Tell them you belong to the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Then start talking about all the cool stuff the Church has like the Blessed Sacrament, the other sacraments, saints, our own city-state. And when they say they don’t understand this or that just shrug and tell them it’s their loss. In other words make the Church sound cool and make them feel like they’re missing out.😃

Ask them to show where Jesus said it was ok to split from the Church.

Ask them to show how their own protestant denomination can trace its existence back to Jesus himself.

Ask them why the first Christians died and suffered horribly for their Catholic faith if it was so unimportant to do so.

🤷

Relativism always winds up looking foolish in the light of history, tradition and reason. They just don’t have any real leg to stand on in their argument.

That’s nice and all but Jesus still did say:
“He who eats the flesh of the Son of Man and drinks his blood lives in me and I in him. If you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood you have no life in you.”

Beliefs matter, so do sacraments. Your soul will always be starving, whether one knows it or not, without the Eucharist. Only two churches out there have it.

I belong to the Church which Jesus Christ founded, and guaranteed would stand until the end of time. He left it for all of us as an inheritance! The Catholic Church that the Bible teaches us is protected, taught, and led by the Holy Spirit. The Church that is the pillar, and foundation of the truth! We need the One, Holy , catholic, Apostolic Church of TRUTH to get to Heaven not the church of conjecture. Mathew 16:17-19, 1st Tim 3:15, John 14:15 & 25

Of course I’d word more gently, but just speak from your heart about what you love in the Church. 🙂

Just tell your friend this.

“Now, i understand that you are a Christian, which means that you believe in Christ and his teachings, which is good! But your missing something. While you and I both believe in Christ and his teachings, i follow them.” (then proceeds the Catholic apologetics :D)

Being Christian doesn’t necessarily mean you follow Christ.

Excellent point. Matthew 7:21-23 clearly says: *21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22“Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’
