It takes light from the sun 8 seconds to get here therefore the sun is 8 light seconds away.

Some of the nearest stars are trillions of miles away by geometric calculations therefore the distance is measured in light years but even then some of the furtherst objects are billions of light years away. 1 million light years means that light travelling constantly at the speed of light as it is now would take 1 million years to get here. If the speed of light had been faster, the Atoms could not have formed to start the universe. By this we can theorise that the big bang was a controlled explosion. F=MA because God made it so.

One of the main “planks” of Henry Morris’ argument in his book “The Genesis Flood” was that uniformitarianism was opposed to the Bible. He relied on this passage especially:

  • 2Pe 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in [both] which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
  • 2Pe 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
  • 2Pe 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
  • 2Pe 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the creation.
  • 2Pe 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
  • 2Pe 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
  • 2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
  • 2Pe 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day…
2 Peter 3.6 was very important for his argument, because it implied that the present world is rather different from the world “that then was”: different in a way that makes any attempt to treat the pre-Flood world as testable by techniques & methods that are valid for this present, post-Flood world, impossible. And the Big Bang, with many of its effects for this planet, was by definition previous to the Flood. So it might be argued that we cannot, if Morris’ conclusion is right, apply modern science to what is called the Big Bang; or to anything else earlier than the end (?) of the Flood.

I think Philip Gosse’s “omphalos” argument is much more persuasive… Would a new universe not look older than it was ? One writer illustrates the idea by the wine at Cana: would a scientist, given a sample of it, have been able to tell that it had not matured in the ordinary course of nature as most wine does ? Charles Kingsley thought Gosse’s idea made God seem to be a deceiver - but could that not said be said of many NT miracles ? If so, why can it not seem true of the origin of the universe 🤷 ?

Actually the Big Bang was not a controlled explosion. In fact it’s a bit of a misnomer. Big Expansion is a more accurate description. It’s kind of funny in a way. The term Big Bang was coined by an opponent of the theory and was meant to ridicule it.

As far as the light thing goes, there is no reason why God could not have created the light in transit. Some folks might label this a deception but others would describe it as more of a test. Furthermore, there is an equal chance that Satan is responsible for the light.

That’s one meaning for “Lucifer” that might surprise some people 😉 How did you arrive at that idea ? “Darken our lightness, we beseech Thee, O Lord, and by Thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night…” - it doesn’t seem the same, somehow, even though God does “dwell in thick darkness”.

On the contrary, I respect the typical YEC more than I do your basic God of the Gapper. For example, the YECer will insist that God poofed Adam and Eve into existence. None of this evolution stuff for her. Just a definitive statement of faith even if it makes no sense at all.

Are you proposing creation by goddess ? If so, have you any particular creatress in mind ?

There are alternatives to YECism, and to the “god-of-the-gaps”.

That would be right, if your premises were true and if we gleamed the evidence for the Big Bang from the Earth. Unfortunately for this ‘hypothesis’, if it can be called that, that is not the case. We gleamed evidence for the Big Bang from the outside Universe, not the Earth. Search for the Red Shift.
The only way the pre-Flood world could be tested using the Scientific Method, and get false conclusions, would be if the natural laws were different.
