I just had a very pleasant experience that I would like to share.

I just viewed footage from yesterday’s (07/16/04) CBS’s “Early Show”. The video article was about girls and young woman now demanding more ‘conservative’ clothing styles. Apparently this new “fad” is a reaction to the “belly shirts” and “low rise pants” that have been made popular by entertainers such as Britney Spears and others.

As a parent of a pre-teen girl, I hope that this new fashion catches on. I personally find it very distasteful for girls and young woman to dress in the current fashion. The video article informs that many of today’s young woman share my 'fashion sense". In fact, they have a derogative name for girls who show too much flesh. The term, which I had never heard before, is “prosti-tot”

OK, who wants to start a clothing company that caters to this new and revolutionary fashion statemtent?

Or if it is there, what’s the stock ticker? 🙂

Have you ever tried a Talbots Kids? They’re in many malls and have fun, fashionable clothes without the bare middrifts, low rise pants, glitter or jungle prints and you will never see a shirt in their stores bearing the slogan “Brat,” “Princess,” or “Flirt.”

I think it’s a great idea. It really really really urks me when I see teenage girls with “bi#ch” on their behinds while walking around with their mothers!!! I feel like hitting them upside the head and saying “what are you thinking!!!???”

I like low-rise pants. They are a lot more comfortable than the high-waisted jeans. I usually wear t-shirts anyway, so no one can really tell what kind of pants they are.

MOTHERS DEMAND CONSERVATIVE FASHIONS FOR THEIR YOUNG DAUGHTERS

I was conservative and a prude in the 1970’s, but most of the stuff I could buy in 9th and 10th grades was a little racy (hip huggers, halters, mini-skirts, short tees). That’s all the stores at the time sold and we didn’t sew. Then in 11th and 12th grades, skirts went below the knee and the “prairie” look came back. Every generation does the same thing, this one is just following the same trend.

Lands End also sells pretty reasonable and conservative clothing. My daughter, who is 8, will not wear anything that shows her belly or her bottom. THANK GOD! It is very difficult to find decent clothes. I agree that Talbots kids sells nice things too, so does LLBean kids - but they both get a little expensive. Target has some decent things if you look, some of the stuff is trashy too.

I don’t know of any particular modest brand names but I recommend shopping at thrift stores. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been more modest than my mother. She gives me V-necks and I won’t wear them because they go too low in the front. She took me to at least two stores before I finally found a decent prom dress that she bought me. I really don’t like skin-tight clothes, spaghetti straps, etc. Please let me know what I can add to this webpage: dashjr.is-a-geek.org/~cora-jr/chaste/tips.html

Hey,

I can’t remember the name of the girls but a few years back some teenagers from AZ complained about the prom dresses major retailers were seeling and got a petition signed by hundreds of peers. I believe the young ladies are now fashion concultants for Dillard’s. As a young man, I know that medest dress helps (does not solely determine as all men have free will as well) with chastity for both sexes. Thanks and God Bless.

My daughter is in a Challenge club and they host a modesty fashion show each spring. This years was a huge success!

I don’t know how many of you are parents, but don’t you think in this age of E-commerce some parents could get together and design clothings lines that are fashionable and modest and seel them to retailers??? Thoughts, comments or suggestions anyone??? Thanks and God Bless.

I would love to see the look on some people’s faces if they saw those two words together!

Eamon,
How so??? What do you think reactions would be like???I know that they are often opposed in modern society, but they don’t have to be. Curious as to your thoughts. 🙂 Thanks and God Bless.

I am doing what I can to prep my daughters to love modesty. I took them to the local Challenge club “Pure Fashion” show last month. They are only 7 and 5 but they were very excited about going to a “real fashion show.” It was good that they had prom dresses in the show, because that really caught their eyes. Just yesterday at Target my oldest wanted a “Maya & Miguel” tank top and I almost bought it since it was on clearance, but couldn’t find something that the younger one liked as well. So we put it back and the 7yo said, “That’s OK, it wasn’t modest anyway!” Hooray!

Go girls!

I have always wanted a girl who:
  1. Isn’t sexually active.
  2. Doesn’t have more than one boyfriend at a time.
  3. Doesn’t cheat.
  4. Doesn’t do things on dates early, like kissing, for example.
  5. Kisses only one guy this way. No crappy excuses like stage plays or first aid training (first aid for an unconscious person is a perfect excuse, though).
  6. Doesn’t slow dance with strangers, sit on the laps of guys she barely knows, allow strangers or mere acquaintances to put arms around her.
  7. Doesn’t put up with groping, rubbing and sexual pick-ups.
  8. Doesn’t wear low-riding jeans and other such slutty and frowsy stuff.
  9. Isn’t trying to look sexually active when she isn’t.
  10. Regrets the failures to keep chaste and pure rather than cherishes them in her memory.
  11. Doesn’t use her God-given beauty to get a discount price, free meal or admission where she shouldn’t go.
  12. Doesn’t imply sexual favours.
  13. Doesn’t do even slightly romantic or sexual things without a real meaning or for gain. Cheers from an audience is a gain. Satisfying a teacher or boss or anyone is a gain.
  14. Doesn’t make out when drunk.
  15. Doesn’t flirt with other guys when she has a boyfriend.
  16. Knows her limits.
It’s great if with all this she could also have a sense of style in clothing and know how to have fun.
