I was wondering what people’s daily prayer life consists of. Some will be routine, some will be shorter or longer. A lot will depend on your stage in life. Single, married, young kids etc. I would like to see if there are other things people are doing that I can incorporate into my daily routine.

For me, have two young kids so the evenings are tough. I am usually tired after getting them down so I know that is not a good time for me to pray. I will usually not do it if I wait until then. So, Since I leave for work at 7:15, I decided 6 months ago to get up at 5 each morning, (I am more of a Moring person) so I can spend some alone time with the Lord.

My morning pretty much goes like this.
The Rosary
10 minutes or so in quiet prayer
Write in my prayer journal
Read the daily readings and a daily mediation in the Word Among Us
Read one of the Saints from Butler’s Lives of the Saints (A Saint from that Day)

I say a decade of the rosary after dinner with my wife and two kids.

How does your typical day go?

I don’t think you shold worry about your time with the Lord, it seems very much in tact.
I am a 3rd order Carmelite and I start at 5.45 am with the liturgy of the day. I pray on the way and at work (my work allows) I finish off the liturgy at night I love to spend time with DVD’s of Jesus the saints and Prophets. I then share with you at risk where possibleand love to share on this CAF.
I could not say that one persons prayers are better or more in tact than others. God alone knows from our heart will his judgment be taken.

Godbless

I have 3 young ones, I actually carry my prayer book around with me, so any free moments that i have i say prayers…At night, I am tired, so I have catholic missions from this priest on cd and i listen to him as i lay in bed, b/c sometimes I’m too tired to read…Also, during the day in my car driving my kids here and there, I listen to inspiring christian music and i and pray during that…

One really should not compare one’s prayer life to another’s. The amount of time in prayer really says nothing about the interior spiritual life of a person. Someone can pray formal prayers for three hours a day and never take the time to listen to the voice of God. Someone else can pray when they can but their prayers are more sincere and they listen with their heart to what God tells them. With prayer it is quality that counts…the depth of the conversation and if we are open to hearing God speak to us…after all, prayer is a two way conversation.

I also get up at 5 am mon through friday and on sundays. I have a specially challenged young adult that leaves for rehab at 6:30 am. while I am having my coffee before I get him up I say the novena to ST. Michael, for protection for the day. After my son leaves for rehab I do the rosary, followed by prayers to the Blessed Virgin. These prayers are in the Favorite Prayers to our Lady ( purchased through ewtn) there is one for the month ( depends on the month) I do and one for the day of the week, during may I do the litany of lorreto. After I do my prayers to the Blessed Virgin, I do the readings for the day ( I am a lector for day masses as well as weekends) and I reflect on them. To Finish my Prayers I pray the Anima Christi pray to Jesus.

After my son goes to bed ( 9-10 pm) I do my prayers and mediation to Jesus . By then I am ready to sleep. When I pray I start with the Our Father’s then Thank him for the blessings for the day good or bad, and listen to him talk to me. then I end it and go to bed.

This is how I pray daily, May Gods peace be with you and your family always

Oh my gosh, we have nearly the identical prayer routine! Seriously, right down to www.wau.org! Add to that, I try to say the Chaplet, and I pray at night before bed. On the weekends, I try to spend time just in quietness…not necessarily praying, but just ‘being’ before God, and listening for Him.

I like how you pray a decade of the rosary after dinner. That would be a good addition for my family and me. My dd and I pray the Rosary together often. Sometimes, my dh, if he is home from work…

I really enjoyed reading this, thanks for sharing. I think praying a novena for protection is such a beautiful way to begin your day! I might have to add that in the morning before work, and maybe pray the Rosary after work or in the evenings. I typically pray the Rosary before work, or I listen to a cd of the Rosary on my way to work. I would like to add more prayer, and this would be perfect. :o

Typically, during the week, I get up at about 5 a.m… I read the reflection from St. Monica in Indianapolis and Word Among Us on the computer while I am eating breakfast. I get myself ready for the day, and then slip out the door about 6:15 for 6:30 Mass on Mon, Thursday and Friday. I return home, get my kids out the door (I have a 12 and a 13 year old). I drop them off at school by 7:40. I work about 5 minutes from their school, but I don’t have to be there until 8:15, so I will drive to school, sit in my car in the parking lot, and pray Morning Prayer from the Shorter Christian Prayer prayer book.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I will go to 7:30 Mass after I drop my children off at school, and I don’t usually get the chance to pray Morning Prayer on those days.

I will almost always pray Evening Prayer at night. If I am not too tired, I will write in my journal. Sometimes that is prayerful, but I wouldn’t call it a “prayer journal”.

Like you, “HH”… I tend to be extremely tired in the evenings (I don’t have kids, but I’m full time caregiver to my 87 year old mother); so… I save the longer, formal prayers for early. My prayer day usually goes like this:

1.) Morning… on waking: a brief, informal chat with Our Lord. Followed by the Chaplet of St. Michael (I like the protection of St. Michael and the Angels… during the day! 👍 )

2.) Afternoon: The Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

3.) Evening: The Memorare and a brief informal chat with Our Blessed Mother.

4.) Bedtime: Informal chat with Our Lord (during which, sometimes… I fall asleep )

God bless.

I don’t spend my time saying prayers like the Rosay and the Chaplet. Sure, I like to say them whenever I can, but I perfer to do kind works for others. I try to do a good deed a day. It keeps me humble, you know? And I make an effort to make little acts of kindness for people I don’t necessaraly like. I feel that’s what Jesus wants me to do.

But, each night no matter how tired I am, I thank the Lord for the day, ask Him any intentions I may have (I have some I pray for every night), and commend my soul into His care over the night.

Your absolutely right! However, it is nice to see what others do as an example- and some inspiration. Reading this makes me realize how lax I have been in prayer lately:blush: and motivates me to get going-and gives some ideas too.
THANKS EVERYONE!

On holy days and fasting days, I will get up at about 3:00 am and pray the Office of Readings (LOTH). If it is not a holy day, and continue sleeping.

In the morning I stagger to the shower, dress and head to a nearby convent/retreat house where I pray Morning Prayer (Liturgy of the Hours) with the Sisters there, followed by Mass.

On Holy days or when I am fasting (such as the monthly E5 Men fast) I will pray all the offices of liturgy of the Hours, Mid-morning, Midday and Mid-afternoon (I sit in my car in the parking lot). If it is not a holy, I do not do this.

I come home in the evening and prayer Evening Prayer (LOTH). Sometimes followed by a rosary, sometimes not.

On holy days or fasting days, I will spend the evening reading scripture, meditating or going to a nearby perpetual adoration chapel.

Before bed, I do some brief scripture reading or books written by saints. Then I pray Night Prayer (LOTH), which include an examination of conscience.

Looking at this, I realize that I do not seem to have a very rich prayer life. I guess that is an area where I need to improve. :o

Joanm, while I understand and agree with your points, like petitfleur, reading this thread does help me to realize that while I thought I had a decent prayer life, there are certainly ares where I could improve.

Thursday night 10:00 pm - 11:00 pm:

My favorite time of the week outside of Mass - Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

My prayer life is a recent life event. I began adoration last October and committed to a more intense prayer life at the new year. It was not a resolution, but a committment to my God for all He did for me last year. Secular tv is seldom on. I used to be a Fox news junkie but realized it was junk too.We cancelled movie channels. EWTN is on a lot. The DVR works overtime.

Sometimes I visit the Blessed Sacrament near work during the day. I set my own work schedule and am responsible for my own productivity so I essentially do whatever I want as long as my work is complete. No one tells me what to do since no one even knows what I do. My manager even has trouble asking me to do things because even he does not know what I do. I send him a weekly email telling him what I accomplished. Every month or so he schedules a face-to-face meet just to chat.

Pretty sweet gig. Everyone should have it so good after 30 years.
