Our two granddaughters were sexually abused by their father at the ages of three and 1 1/2 years old. The children protection agency found that the allegation is creditable but there is not enough physical evidence for the police to get involve.

The father was allowed supervised visits by the court and weekly telephone calls. The children, now almost ten and seven, have mentioned on various occasions that they do not wish to see or have anything to do with him. The man is a professional but has never been able to keep a job for the past ten years, but it doesn’t bother him since he comes from a rich family. At this time he is after the court for permission to take the children out of the province for two weeks in the summers and one week during the Christmas seasons all by himself. We fear the court will grant him his wishes, we have very little money left to fight him through the court system who, according to a cousin who has a master’s degree in social science and worked for the department of justice all his live said, “the court system is not equipped to deal with cases of sexual abuse.”

My question, is there anyone who knows of any organization in Canada who could help with advice? On the 27th my daughter will be facing her “X” with his lawyer, a judge will be there. Her lawyer is a young inexperienced person and my fear is that the pedophile will have it his way…

I live here in the US however, check with your diocese and see if they have a family ministries office which deal with these issues. They can then direct you to the proper channels, whether it is a child advocate, social worker, etc Go with your gut instinct on this one and listen strongly to the kids. They appear to feel very uncomfortable on this one. With all things, pray on it.

You have my prayers…

Is there anyway that the childern would be allowed to talk to the judge or that the lawyer can ask that if the childern don’t want to go that no one can force them to go?

I appreciate your prayers, thank you so much for the mentioned and for the advice.

From what our daughter related to us, the court seem to be attempting to minimize the abuse and the accent is placed rather on our Catholic religious belief. So, you see the dilemma were face with… The lawyers have attacked the reputation of my wife, one who attends Mass each day and is a very conscientious person. The court seem to be dealing with everything but the fact that the children are adamant, their father did abuse them. This is backed up with phsychological reports and that of our family doctor who is no stranger to abused cases. The children can be difficult with people they have confidence in.

As it is we have many communities praying for the mother and children. It’s our only hope. You probably know that in Canada our laws are terribly antiquated but unfortunately people only realize this sad situation when confronted with the issue.

Unfortunately the judge is the problem…

This is horrible. 😦 I am grieving for your grandkids. I was a victim many years ago. I live in the US. The only solution was to remove the cause. I pray that things go right for you and your family.

I will definitely add you to my prayer list. Also - have you tried praying the St. Jude prayer (Novena)? I find St. Jude to be very powerful and even when/if I don’t get exactly what i ask him for, I get blessed just reading this prayer over and over as a form of deep meditation. It purifies my mind, etc. I think it was my prayers to St. Jude that got me this one thing i asked him for (hard to say because others, even Protestants, had been praying for me also…). One more very important thing: I pray that you totally and completely give this situation to God, through Jesus Christ, because anything we hold onto… well, the devil can get in there… and obvioiusly he is already there… I feel your pain. God bless you. Have you spent time before the Blessed Sacrament?

Thank you everyone for the positive posts!

O most holy apostle, St. Jude…, is on my prayer list including St. Antoine and St. Benedict. As Catholic, our faith is really being tested…
