I live in Maryland, and last night was up late watching TV with my DH. They kept showing two commercials over and aver again.
The first showed a young African American couple, obviously underclassman high school age. They were sitting on the couch of the boys parent’s home getting hot and heavy. The boy than reaches over and unbuttons the girls jeans and she says … “Wait!! Do you have protection?” The camara than shows the boy superspeeding through the house, checking drawers like crazy. He doesn’t find any. He finally comes back with some saran wrap and holds it up, and she says, “Get serious and get some protection” or something like that and she buttons up her jeans as the boy looks disappointed. The moral of the commercial being that he should have been better prepared. At the very end as it is saying that this commercial has been brought to you by the Youth something or other there is a written phrase on the screen that says abstinence is 100 %, but it’s a quick flash and barely able to be read.
The second commercial shows two young African American teenage girls. One is waiting for her friend to come out of the clinic. She then asks her the test results. The girl says, I’m not a dummy … theres a hand holding condoms, and a voice saying …“Get tested today” and a flash to an AIDS hotline. I couldn’t understand everything that was said, it was a very low budget commercial, and these kids were obviously inner city from their accents.
Thankfully these commercials came late at night, so my kids didn’t see them … but it’s sad.
Has any one else seen these types of commercials?
