I have an interview for a youth minister position at a local parish next week. Are their any youth ministers who can advise me on things I can do to prep for my interview? Also, can anyone give some insight into what their day-to-day looks like?

Also, any prayers are appreciated. I really want this job.

Thanks

I am a DRE AND Youth Minister.
In my interview I stated that I wasn’t there for the people who just wanted to dump there kids off and pick them up when they were “cured” of their secularism.
I wanted to work with engaged families, kids who truly wanted to learn, and that I would do two things:
Love them in Christ where they are, and not ever lie to them. I would tell the
truth of our faith…whether or not it was going to get boos or rolled eyes. Kids want to know that you are straight with them. No bull####. I would give them the truth, and prepare them to go forward with a toolbox full of knowledge, the proper reading materials, and a appreciation for the Mass.
Too many kids only know rote prayers. Too many kids don’t know church history. Too many kids are catechized by television the Huffington Post, their high school friends who are unchurched, and the Kardashians.
I’m in the business of showing them a path for true freedom, a place of love, peace, and mercy.
That place is in the Catholic church.

Wonderful post!! 👍👍👍

I will definitely keep you in my prayers for this interview. :signofcross:

What Clare says is spot-on and from her heart.

You also need to speak from your heart. ❤️ Don’t try to be something your aren’t.

I would recommend finding out a bit about the parish, the demographics of the people registered there, what sorts of activities they’ve done in the past – not just in youth ministry, but throughout the entire parish.

God bless you!
