Im not sure if I agree that rock is on life support. Yes, I think it’s not ‘mainstream’ anymore, in that it gets less radio play, is in movies less, and just in general is less in pop culture. But the great thing is that you don’t need radio play to reach a large audience, what with Spotify and YouTube and what not. Every rock concert I’ve been to recently has been sold out.
 
What exactly does “genuine rock” mean? What makes something rock or not rock? Throw on some Fats Domino or Buddy Holly or Bill Haley and compare it to rock from the early 60s. Then mid-60s. Then late 60s. In what… 15 since rock’n’roll’s inception it already changed and evolved and grew. Naturally it’s going to continue doing that over the over 60 years of the genre’s existence.
 
There is rock out there if you look for it. It’s just not as popular as it once was.
