First of all, i read this was an approved apparition, but if i’m wrong sorry i made this thread.

Ok, so i read that there was a marian apparition at Zeitoun, where thousands of people witnessed the Virgin Mary over a period of three years. It was also said that the sick and blind there were cured.

So why haven’t i heard of it before? Lourdes, Fatima, Guadalupe, etc. are all very famous, but in those cases the Virgin Mary was only witnessed by a few people (although in Fatima i think she did appear to a bunch of people later on), while at Zeitoun she was witnessed by millions. Now i would think after something like this occured, it would be all over the news and people would be converting to catholicism left and right.

So why not?

Well…if you were to ask your average person on the street if they know what an Orthodox Christian is I’d bet that most of the people asked wouldn’t have an answer to that question… And that’s what it all comes down to… the willingness of others to know more about our Orthodox brethren…

I myself have a great respect for the Orthodox and have many Coptic Christian friends… but in all honesty if I had not had an interest in knowing more about the community and its faith I probably to this day would know nothing about Our Lady of Zeitoun (Zeitoun means Olives) and how for 3 years she was miraculously appearing in Egypt to people of different religious backgrounds. I love how the Copts also refer to Our Lady as “Mother of light” (Om El Noor)



Oh…almost forgot to add that this apparitions is approved…

FWIW, the Coptic Catholic, Coptic Orthodox, and Greek Orthodox patriarchs all accept these visions as genuine and have inscribed their commemoration into their calendars.

I met a Coptic priest (who died under mysterious circumstances that might be martyrdom) who said that one result of these visions was the baptism of many Muslims–not good for one’s health in Egypt.

I have heard of the apparitions at Zeitoun.
A lot of Catholic inforrmational websites that deal also with
Marian visitations, mention Zeitoun, often providing links to the pictures of the apparition.

She appeared at Assiut, Egypt as well,
and on YouTube somewhere is ** video **of that apparition.

One thing–the Church at Zeitoun is built where the Holy Family lived during their Egyptian exile.

I guess she was visiting the Old House.
