(hope this is in the right forum)

I was diagnosed with PPD after the birth of SweetGirlOne. I was given 50 mg. of Zoloft, which worked quite well. After the birth of SweetGirlTwo, that was bumped to 75 mg., which again worked well.

Until about a month ago, that is. 😦 All the depression signs were there, and it really wreaked havoc on my family, too. So I got my behind into the dr.'s office two weeks ago, and she switched me to Wellbutrin. Per her orders, I went to 25 mg. Zoloft while taking Wellbutrin XL 150 at the same time, for a week. Then last week, I stopped the Zoloft entirely and am now on 300 mg. of Wellbutrin XL.

And now the head zaps (brain zaps, brain shivers) are almost debilitating! Have any of you had experience with those brain zaps? OMGosh, they’re almost worse than the PPD itself. 😦 Did you experience this if you switched depression meds? Did it eventually go away, and if so, how long did they last? Were you given anything or did you take anything to alleviate the brain zaps?

They’re so awful that if you said eating tree bark helped, I’d throw on my coat and head to the nearest maple. 😦 Any advice would be most appreciated!

^Of course, if the brain zaps don’t get any better. Did you have them?

Hi,
I didn’t have the ā€œbrain zapsā€ but know they are fairly common. When I was switched off Zoloft about 6 months ago, onto Effexor, it was a REALLY hard transition. During those first few weeks my depression got even worse - and I even wound up in the hospital. But, eventually the dosages were regulated and now all is well. Hopefully the same is true for you, that your withdrawal symptoms will ease in a matter of a few days to weeks.

I say get another doctor.

You went from a Serantonin inhibitor to an entirely different ā€œinhibitor.ā€ Meaning it effects totally different chemicals in the brain.

Did you wean off the Zoloft? SLOWLY?

I can’t give you medical advice because I am not a doctor. I can’t suggest medical advice outside of get a second opinion because it’s against the rules here.

BUT you must do something, you should not have been changed drugs like this, not two different species anyway!

Yikes, your symptoms need medical attention – please get it – prayers with you!
