Does Your Parish Receive Candidates at the Easter Vigil?

Does Your parish receive Candidates for full Initiation into the Church at the Easter Vigil? My parish did for many years but several years ago we moved away from that model and normally receive Candidates at other times of the year. Of course we still baptize at the Easter Vigil.

Is Trading a kind of Sharing?

What do you think? Is trading goods or using money to buy things a form of sharing? Or do you consider sharing to be more along the lines of giving away what you have without really expecting anything in return?

Veils & Hats: Is one preferable to the other?

Because another thread was going somewhat off topic I have decided to start a new one. For women who chose to wear head coverings, why do you chose the style of head covering that you do? I came across this blog page which states something I have been saying: Pre-1983, hats were more common...

    Forum user join dates

In the old forum, users’ join dates were normally included under their avatars. You could see right away if someone was new or had been around for a while. Those forum join dates are still there but you actually have to click on something to see them. It was a useful tool when trying to...

    Catechumens or Catechumens&Candidates?

At the Easter Vigil, does your parish bring Candidates for Full Initiation into the Church as well the Catechumens? My parish used to do both. But several years back we switched to keeping the Easter Vigil for Catechumens (with a few exceptional cases.) Candidates for Full Initiation are...

Parishes with a Blessed as a Patron

Who belongs to a parish with a Patron who is beatified but not yet canonized? Or perhaps the Patron is now canonized but wasn’t when you became a member. Our parish is now Saint Junipero Serra but for most of its existence was Blessed Junipero Serra.

Prayer question for Catholics who attended grammar school in the 1950s and earlier

For those of you who attended Catholic Schools and/or CCD prior to the 1960s, I’d like to know if you prayed the rosary, and other Catholic prayers in English, in Latin, or in some other language? Did it depend on whether you were at school, at home, in a non-liturgical Church setting, or...

In the years from 1966 to 1969, how common was it for Masses in the United States to be celebrated in Latin? I don’t remember any after 1966.

Cell Phone Emergency type Alerts at Mass

Back in the early days of Catholic Answers forums there was a plethora of threads regarding cell phones ringing during Mass. Now days I seldom hear cell phones ringing during Mass and if I see people complaining about cell phone usage it is more likely to be about texting, playing games, taking...

    Computer, Tablet, Phone, or?

How do you usually “visit” Catholic Answers Forums? I normally use my laptop because I like to have a bazillion tabs open at once and my laptop is the fastest at switching between websites. I also prefer actual keyboards. I’m someone who believes that the more readable stuff you can access from...

    Sanctuary Decorations

So long as the rules regarding liturgical seasons and location are followed**, **are there any liturgical or other guidelines specifying a preference between fresh cut flowers, potted flowering plants, or other fresh cut/dried flora in the sanctuary?

    Saying, "Amen," prior to receiving

When did it become the norm for the recipient to respond, “Amen,” after the priest says “Corpus Christi,” or “Body of Christ”? When I made my First Communion in 1966 we were trained to respond whether the priest spoke in Latin or English. (In fact we were trained to say Ah-men or Ay-men...

    Change in Ritual Church

Suppose a Latin Catholic man and woman marry in a Latin parish and eventually have children. At some point the man decides to go through the steps to switch to one of the Eastern Catholic Churches. Does his decision have an automatic effect on the ritual church of his children? Does it depend...
