I heard a podcast last Sunday about the Jesus prayer, and I thought it could be a nice opportunity to give God a different prayer. Then, I heard about the chotki, (the cord you pray with) and I wondered whether it would be a heresy to pray with it, or even pray the Jesus prayer (Jesus, son of god , have mercy on me). I started researching but I couldn’t find anything about it, the few as articles on the web were mostly saying that it was alright, and some saying it was heresy because it came from the orthodox tradition; since sources are so rare I am still wondering.

I’m not sure how it would be heresy to pray “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” Not only is something which comes out of the Orthodox tradition not a heresy, but the Catechism of the Catholic Church uses the Jesus Prayer as one of two exemplars for prayer in its section on prayer–the other being the Our Father itself.

I would use a rosary, personally. Is there a reason you want to use a prayer chain from a different spirituality? I’d stay away from non-Christian “sacramentals.”

A chotki isn’t “non-Christian.” They are used in Eastern Orthodoxy and Eastern Catholicism. I have several myself.

Oh I’m sorry! My aunt is Buddhist and has some type of prayer rope and I thought that’s what the OP was referring to. My bad!
