‘We are all Catholics now’
Baptist Gov. Mike Huckabee on Obama mandate

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 16 – Many observers have been buoyed by the stunning display of unity between Catholics and Evangelicals against President Obama’s effort to force religious institutions to cover sterilizations, contraceptives, and abortion-inducing drugs.

The sentiment was on full display at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday, when former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee declared: “We are all Catholics now.”

Before an enthusiastic crowd, the Southern Baptist pastor opened by thanking President Obama: “You have done more than any person in the entire GOP field, any candidate has done, to bring this party to unity, and energize this party, as a result of your attack on religious liberty and the attack on the personhood of every human being in America.”

“I remember very vividly when John F. Kennedy said that ‘we are all Berliners’. Well in many ways, thanks to president Obama, we are all Catholics now,” Huckabee said.
Now famed radio host Glenn Beck, a Mormon, has turned Huckabee’s phrase into a lobbying movement, urging his fans to lobby their senators to support Sen. Roy Blunt’s conscience protection measure.

“It’s conscience. It’s not contraceptives,” he told listeners Wednesday. “This is an attack on your right to practice the religion in the way that you see fit. It’s an attack on conscience, not contraceptives.”

Religion Dispatches points out that polling shows Evangelicals are even more opposed to the mandate than Catholics, even though it’s been portrayed as a Catholic issue.

Obama speaks well, He is intelligent, it seems he is handsome (so some say, I am a man), many think he is a black (when he is not) and got the NoBel Prize.
Except for these, he has been a complete disappointment.
Mainly, I wonder what his ideological background is?
Anyone can tell me where Obama stands for in philosophical and religious and moral grounds?
It’s because for me it seems that he has got none but conquer power.

Obama is not particularly intelligent and there is a reason you’ve never seen his college grades. He has advisers who tell him what to do and he can’t make a speech without a teleprompter. He’s not an American Black and he has nothing in common with them; he’s a mulatto who spent his childhood in Indonesia. He got the Nobel Prize on a pretext and there are many people who don’t respect the Nobel prize anymore because of it. I am one of them. Personally, I don’t think he’s handsome either. His arrogance is disgusting. Handsome is as handsome does, and Obama’s behavior is awful. He’s repulsive.

I opposed him in 2008. He has not been a disappointment for me, because he has turned out exactly as I thought he would. He was telling people before the election everything he was going to do, and they didn’t listen to a darn word because they were too busy looking at his butt and thinking that voting for a black man would prove they weren’t racist, which they are because they voted for a black man without listening to what he was saying. The whole thing has been disgusting. It would be nice to say that people have learned something by all this, but I’m not optimistic about that.

This is what I wanted to see. Other religions realizing they are “next” so they will get behind this illegal mandate. Otherwise, they Will be NEXT.

Thanks for sharing this…It’s good to see persons of other faiths stepping forward and closing ranks with us on this matter.

The more solidly the communities of faith - Christians of all stripes, Muslim, Hindu, or whatever oppose this intrusion, the more clearly the message will be sent to the Government and to the Courts that this is viewed as unconstitutional.

This is why we’ve been supported by the Orthodox Jews and the Evangelicals since almost the beginning of this mess. In fact, although this is being framed as a Catholic issue since many of the news media are ex-Catholics, the Evangelicals are reacting to it stronger than we are. They are appalled.

He actually does not speak well without teleprompters.

He’s not handsome.

He’s bi-racial.

His ideological background is socialist/marxist with more to the marxist. He was groomed by Saul Olinksy, a grassroots organizer, who claimed he could not subscribe to any ideology that was rigid – so he might have been a socialist, but appeared to also have marxist leanings. He was not religious. Hillary Clinton wrote her thesis on Saul Olinksy. If the left has a god – it’s Saul Olinksy. He was an excellent organizer, Saul Olinksy – but woefully misguided.

Religiously, I think O was Muslim. Of course 20 years in a hate filled Christian Church also counts for something. Now, I think he has no religion now as Marxists do not believe in God because God is the opiate of the masses.

He’s for himself.

I think it’s wrong of us to criticize Pres. Obama’s physical appearance. That has nothing to do with anything, it makes us appear ignorant (like all the people who vote for a candidate because of looks), and it creates hostility between us and those who support Pres. Obama.

I think it’s very wrong to say anything negative about his race. Yes, he’s bi-racial, and I agree that the media should probably be as forthright about his whiteness as his blackness. But race should not be an issue when electing someone.

I think we should stick with the issues, policies, and Mr. Obama’s vision for the U.S. and the world. There’s plenty of material there without resorting to comments about his looks and his race, neither of which he had any control over.

For the record, BTW, I am a 54-year-old white woman, and I think that President Obama is very handsome, and I think that First Lady Michelle Obama is beautiful. JMO, and it doesn’t matter two hoots. But I state my opinion to demonstrate that everyone will have a different opinion when it comes to personal appearances.

You are right; I should not have responded. Everyone will feel differently. It’s so happens that I do not find him attractive – and I am a woman. I did not find Clinton to be attractive either, though many women did. It’s just an observation.

I apologize for that.

Cat,

I agree with you 100%.

Yes, blacks cried at his election but he has not a drop of blood of the blacks who came as slaves.
I am puzzled that he does not speak without a teleprompt !!!
I thought he had been a bright student at Harvard !!!

The physical appearance started to play a great role in american politics since the start of TV and the debate John Kennedy-Nixon.
That is the problem for today’s Catholics: to distinguish between appearance (that can be enhanced by the media) and doctrine and substance.
