“Everything will fall into place”- how consistent is it with Catholic faith?

For a lot of situations in life, people will say “everything will fall into place”…most of us have seen how while for some people, career, relationships, etc. eventually work out in some way, shape, or form, many struggle and continue to struggle for most of not all of their lives. Nowadays, when I think of the phrase in the title, it sort of makes me feel a bit like it’s borderline law of attraction/prosperity gospel-type beliefs (whether intentional or not), especially as what’s implied is that life will work out how you want it to “eventually”. While I don’t think saying this is a sin or anything, is there a way to encourage that is more in line with our Catholic faith (particularly if someone is not Catholic)?

Don’t forget. The Hindenburg fell into place. The Titanic fell into place. The first A-Bomb fell into place. It’s not always a good thing.

Both law of attraction and prosperity gospel have to do with expecting good things in life because you do good. The former is more of a new age philosophy that’s about drawing positive into your life by thinking positively and “attracting” good from “the universe” while the latter is followed by some Christians who believe that increases in their faith lives will undoubtedly earn them wealth, power, status, health, and other big “blessings” in their earthly lives (rather than these things being provided through the grace of God they are seen as earned and deserved).

I do seem to see that positive experiences can be seen in most people’s lives.
However, in truth, if you want things to fall into place you should work with God’s Grace.

I prefer Julian of Norwich’s “All will be well, and every manner of thing will be well.” That’s ultimate peace and an understanding that everything that happens is God’s will, for our good. It does not ensure temporal “good” as people regard “good,” but ultimate good.

I prefer St. Teresa of Avila’s prayer:
Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.

I would note that there are prayers like St. Patrick’s Lorica that ask for “reward” to come “in abundance”. It does not specify the type of reward. It is fine however to pray for things like personal financial health or stability and to have great confidence in God about this, but always understanding that it is his will.

What actually happens is when you put your faith and trust in God to do what is right for you, you become more okay with whatever happens, because you are holding God’s hand and taking each step with him. It is not easy - we always want to have some control, we think we know what is best, but we have to trust God and know that He and Mary and Joseph are with us through it all.

I personally don’t believe that everything will fall into place (a saying that assumes things will be alright at the end). Life can suck a lot.

Its basically the ‘Things will get better’ saying. I guess it can happen, but why always expect good stuff to happen? Lots of things happen in our lives we dont like, surely not everything can go our way. If things don’t fall into place, thats fine, as long as I still have my faith in the Lord. Material and life come and go, but the spirit leads to eternal life.

“Everything will fall into its place?” That is an inferior way of thinking compared to “Everything has fallen into its place,” or the law of gratitude.

For example as a teenager my elderly grandmother lived with us. She had suffered a stroke and required lots of physical attention. My mother was a nurse but 24/7 is all the time–so I helped out a LOT! I saw medical attention, administered some of it myself… checking sugar levels, helping with bathroom duties, fixing meals, giving meds… lots of attention…
Often I wondered where was I going, what was my future. Was I ever going to start my own life? And eventually I did. And guess what. After a few years my DH needed physical attention, meds… like God had prepared me for my very own future…

Things haven’t been falling into place for the children of Syria, for example. Nor for the Christians throughout the middle east suffering genocide. Nor for the young person diagnosed with a terminal illness. Nor for the homeless person cast off from society. Nor for the kid who’s bullied mercilessly at school. … etc… etc…

A little perspective always helps when we fall into the trap of thinking that everything in our lives should be falling into place.

Maybe we’d be better served simply counting our blessings and hoping to make someone elses day a little better.

Not everybody gets the happy ending in this world.
But we’re only passing through this world.
Heaven is our goal and our real home

Things don’t fall into place for me, no worldly great prosperity, not lucky and I don’t get my own way. BUT … I am so blessed by God and would not give that up for all the worldly prosperity, luck or even getting my own way.

Things actually do fall into place for these people; they eventually die, and if they have lived their Christian values, presumably they go on to be with Jesus.
Obviously this is not an answer anyone ever wishes to hear, but it’s likely what happens.

I say this all the time and I mean it. Everything will work out. It has to. Time passes and that is that. I don’t mean it in a spiritual way. I guess I mean it more in a “what will be, will be” kind of way. And as humans, we adapt when we have no control over something.

That’s a biased view. Whatever happens is taken to be what needs to happen, and things “fall into place”. That’s unfalsifiable

Just because things seem to fall into place doesn’t mean there aren’t LOTS of crosses to carry. Life is a journey to bring us closer to God and things really do fall right into place… still doesn’t mean it’s EASY… yes?

Very consistent.

God is in control of everything. Everything is exactly where God wants it to be. He is Sovereign over all Creation.

Everything good is happening according to His Holy Perfect Will…

Everything else is happening according to His Permissive Will.

Not a single leaf falls without His oversight.

What is biased about it? I believe things work out because we don’t have any choice but to choose to accept things as they are, or to try to change them. It is binary. Either way will be ok. Like another poster said, at the end we all die.
