Maryknoll priest summoned by superiors after participating in ordination of ‘womanpriest’ by California ‘womanbishop’

Full article…

What a shame. Fr. Roy is a well-known peace activist and voice for the powerless. Getting involved in this won’t help his causes. Can Maryknoll restrict his activities?

Sad to see a Priest go all Episcopalian on us 😦

Hopefully he’ll have a change of heart… (but I doubt it). Failing that, hopefully he is disciplined appropriately by his superiors.

As I thought, this man has been excommunicated from the Church. Particpating in a fraudulent sacrament is in fact a serious offense. I presume that will no longer be able to act as a priest at all. We should pray for this person, who has destroyed his life.
I wonder if he can even remain a member of a Catholic order. If so, his relationship with it would be a strange one at least.

You never know what will happen with this priest. His order is pretty far gone. He might convince them he is right.

There is nothing in the article that says this.

This is an area I know little about, but the article does say that anyone who participates in an attempted ordination of women is excommunicated. I am not sure if Fr. Roy’s participation, as described in the article, was enough to trigger the penalty.

However, the Catholic News Service’s article seems to indicate that his participation was sufficient to trigger automatic excommunication.
Father Bourgeois, 69, said that during the event he concelebrated the liturgy and delivered the homily. He also said he laid hands on Sevre-Duszynska, 58, during what traditionally would be the rite of ordination.

He has excommunicated himself by his act. In order to undo that, if he wishes to undo it, he has to publicly renounce his position and act. He has to recant and appeal to his bishop to have the breach he caused be restored. There can be no doubt that he knew what he did would cause bells to go off that would draw attention to himself and the issue. He was willing to face the consequences whatever they might be to accomplish whatever his intentions were. He will try to make his case within his order. Howver sympathetic an audience he finds there, they will not be able to defend him. If they agree with him it will be the end of Maryknoll as a Catholic organization. This forces the issue into the public forum. Surely, Bourgeous knew this would happen and that was his intent.
