“Hollywood is now irrelevant,” says IAC Chairman Barry Diller

Gosh I hope so. I would love to see entertainment diversify in production. It would let smaller voices get a chance to tell their stories and present their content.

When Brodie was slinging fish chum into the water and the shark came out of the water and lunged toward him, the hundreds of people in the audience jumped out of their seat collectively. That kind of experience can only be had at a movie theater.
Personally, I’ve never really been that captivated by everyone in a theater laughing or getting scared at the same time. It’s sort of like a roller coaster - If I rode it with people I know, it might be fun to recollect the experience, but I’m otherwise not moved by everyone screaming during the big drop.
How can you separate Hollywood from politics!
I’m trying to remember the last really political movie I saw. Even those with a political backdrop weren’t really trying to sell a particular political stance.

I mean, I guess if someone takes issue with Cars 3 having a new major character with a Hispanic name, then it could be political, but at that point, the problem is more with them being too political, not the movie.
It would let smaller voices get a chance to tell their stories and present their content.
Let’s just hope it doesn’t come with the same problems as Steam…

It might also be helpful to see the issue in a global light, i.e., given increasing amounts of revenues from the international rather than domestic market, the percentage of people in emerging markets who pay for both Internet broadband and streaming services or can only afford to watch a movie every month or so, and the entry of new players, such as Chinese companies bankrolling movies and TV shows.

Oh Brother, what a bunch of manure.
Anyone who dislikes Trump, dislikes Trump for the jerk he seems to be.
There is no anti-Trump conspiracy.
I never liked him on the Apprentive either.

Political movies are made all the time. Vice and The Front Runner are 2 that come to mind.
What I loathe are the liberal celebrities - of which there are many - who choose to spout off and throw their political views in our faces and pretty much bully anyone who doesn’t think like they do. For most of my life I was a strong supporter of cinema
and went to the movies 4-5 times a week.
Now, I am lucky if I go 4-5 time s a year.
I refuse to see movies anymore with certain celebrities and, frankly, the movies
distributed by Hollywood anymore just aren’t that good. So much money gone to waste that could be put to better use helping the community.
They love their awards shows and dressing up and showing off and patting each other on the back. I don’t even watch those anymore!

More political stuff. There is just no getting away from you folks who want to fight every issue on the forum. Everything has to be political with you folks.

Depends on what you call political. Hollywood has waged a very successful propaganda campaign over several decades to normalize all things gay. How do they depict marriage? Human life and dignity? How about religion? Hollywood doesn’t have to play the Democrats vs. Republicans game in order to influence politics, and believe it, they are in the game.

Exactly…politics is an instrument in spiritual warfare especially as it stands now where the liberal democratic political ideology lays waste to the life teachings of Jesus as depicted in the five Catholic non negotiables. Hollywood for the most part is an extension of the liberal left so part of the battle for Catholics is exposing that.

Political sort of implies a deliberate attempt to preach. While I’ve seen that occur in some poorly-written video games (looking at you Bioware), the inclusion of gay characters seems a lot less political when you realize that these people are either LGBT themselves or based around experiences with LGBT people as they attempt to add to their millions of viewers. I mean, do you expect them to just never depict this side of reality or only do so on ways that would please homophobes?
How do they depict marriage?
All over the place? There’s good marriages, struggling marriages, divorces, etc.
Human life and dignity?
Well, action movies have a very low regard for it, but I doubt they’re trying to say anything with that beyond, “Big fight scenes are cool! And look at all these special effects we spent millions on!”
How about religion?
That depends on the genre and religion.

In the Philippines here movies are about $4 in the cinema.

I enjoy attending but these days I am very discerning in not supporting any movie that has a whiff of preaching political correctness.

I have Netflix at home and just bought a large flat android tv. People prefer coming to my place rather than going to the movies and it is a pleasure to have them.

If you eally object to celebrities in politics, stop electing them. I cannot think of any liberal celebrities elected to office, but there is a substantial list of Republicans who have “thrown their political views in our faces.” Reagan, Eastwood, Bono, Trump…

Celebrities running for office is different.
They can’t run for office without discussing their platform.
It is yout average liberal celebrity who thinks they are so smart and wise and need to preach to the rest of us.
Republican celebrities are forced to remain silent or their livelihood will be
endangered.

MPAA’s R-Rating for Anti-Abortion Film Disputed by Distributor Pure Flix

A 15-year old girl can get an abortion without her parent’s permission but she can’t see this movie without adult supervision?

Apparently you think movies (and television) follow culture, whereas I think they lead culture.

People choose different things to follow.

Not everyone follows Hollywood which helps in part explain the fragmentation in society.

I think part of the discussion here is the viewpoint that less and less of the population are now following Hollywood. Indeed many have a bad opinion of it and are not going to be lead anywhere by them.

I think it’s more complicated, but on the matter of LGBT issues…

Do you honestly think it is so unbelievable that some of these people are LGBT or know LGBT people? Or do you think it is so unbelievable that people trying to get as many views as possible aren’t going to throw in a character that says, “Hey, here’s someone you can relate to a bit or reminds you of someone you know!”

Yes I think it is a two way street. How many movies and tv series visit a strip club in the program?

Wonder where the writers and producers go in their spare time?
