i have tried to be charitable and assume that people didnt know any better. the more i think about it the more i think my attitude is to blame. this is why i will pray for all bishops to excommunicate EVERY Catholic politician in the entire country who goes against Church teaching.
if they dont feel they can in good faith do the job without compromising their religion then they shouldnt run. let me be president and see what happens.

There’s no shortage of politicians who whore their faith to get elected and stay elected. Our own Michigan Governor Jenny “I’m-a-good-Catholic-vote-for-me-but-since-abortion-is-the-law-in-this-state-we-must-follow-the-law” Granholm is a sad example.
Perhaps he meant “Lifelong Catholic” to mean “Catholic up to this point in my life”.
Not surprising. He’s a politician. You can tell he’s lying if his lips move.

Yeah, I’m sure they all noticed and cared.
That’s the problem w/ these politicians, and all “vocal” dissidents, for that matter, they think that if they just scream loud enough at Rome, or get the “right” Pope, or have enough protests and temper tantrums, the Church will change Her teachings. They just don’t get it. The Church is NOT a democracy, and Truth doesn’t change!

You’re probably right about that. I think, pardon the analogy, that it will be a cold day in hell before we start seeing formal and public excommunications for politicians doing such things as this and supporting abortion and infanticide in the US.

This “lifelong Catholic” obviously values his political career more than he values his soul. God has placed him in the position to really change his city for the better, but rather than promote the culture of life, he advances the culture of death.
Catholic politicians have an obligation to govern according to the morals they claim to profess. Unfortunately, they would rather campaign for the “popular” cause in order to win votes.
I think its time for the Church to speak out against politicians who claim to be Catholic but openly defy the teachings of the Church. Maybe they should be denied communion because they are furthering the culture of death, and enabling the sins of others.
I wish a true Catholic, or even a true Christian would run for office and use their position to effect positive change. Somebody needs to stand up for the family, and prevent the masacre of thousands of innocent unborns!
