I agree.

I would say reasonably well. I have read it in its entirety more than once. I am currently rereading the NT right now and I’m up to Luke. I was working my way backwards from Revelation but I quit that after getting through James.

Porque is indeed ‘why’ and it could also be ‘because’ depending on how it is used, but that is another story. Ellammcg, you are obviously searching for some truth and CAF is a good place to start. Do you feel you are being called to convert?

I believe so. I wanted to start RCIA this fall but so far I can only find classes that meet on Wednesday evening, an impossible time for me.

My prayers are with you as you attempt to figure out how to ‘swim the tiber’ as so many love to say. What is the issue in regards to the time frame, if I may ask?

If there is something standing in the way of your growing in faith, I would suggest moving it or possibly even consider why you are allowing this to prevent you from doing something God has put on your heart. Please understand I would never try to question a person’s heart. I merely ask because I wish so badly for you to come into the fullness of faith. Any questions you have, I am certain you can have answered here but I strongly encourage you to speak with your local parish priest.

I have committed to teach Sunday School and children’s church at my church (it is a May to May thing) so I cannot attend at that time. The other RCIA I found is Wednesday evening when I have a college class already scheduled (the only day I can take that class because of my middle son’s football schedule 3:10-7:00pm). I did try again today and found one that starts in late October on Monday nights which looks like I will be able to attend. The parish secretary is sending me the information on it today.
The next problem may be my husband. He is a lapsed Catholic who is now Baptist, like me. He has not objected to my attending mass during the week but I don’t know how well me converting will go over. He is not anti-Catholic by any means. He is a Godly man so I think if this is the Lord’s will-it will work out.
I will feel like a fraud if I remain a member where I disagree on so many issues, OSAS or “eternal security” being only one of them.

If you are suggesting that predestination is an error, I would suggest that you read Augustine and Thomas Aquinas on it. Their writings on it are too long to post here.

By the way I believe that God can predestine and still allow freewill even if we cannot understand how, since all things are possible with Him.

In that freewill still exists then once saved always saved is also not true, although perseverance is a gift of God.

As a Roman Catholic, my beliefs can be found in the current teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

Therefore, I will let the Roman Catholic Church interpret, define and decide the meaning of all things Christian, including what the early Doctors of the Church wrote, and what is written in Holy Scripture.

Catholicism is not the religion of “personal interpretation” and that includes attempting to interpret a Doctor of the Church, in a way, which contradicts Catholic doctrine, dogma and /or Roman Catholic beliefs.

I too disagree with OSAS (which is just another name for eternal security); and the Baptist view of baptism. However, have you come to agree with venerating Mary or the intercession of the saints? How do you reconcile these practices against the revelation that there is “one” mediator between God and man, Jesus (1 Tim. 2:5)? Moreover, what about purgatory?

You do not know me but I am impressed with you and your journey into our Catholic faith. I left Catholicism when I was 18 and returned when I was 58 which was 3 years ago. It took a couple of miracles and my wife praying for 10 years before God’s Grace opened me to His Son. It was through Jesus that I began to know His Mother and it is through His Love for her that I began to understand the heart of a woman and how they bring life into the world. Women are God’s Gift of Love to us. Jesus’ Heart was created in the womb of Mary and His Flesh is her flesh.
Please follow your heart and do not let anyone dissuade you.

if you think those 2 were in favor of predestination (as i understand it), you haven’t read all their works and/or have misunderstood the ones you have…

They were devout Catholics… and if they ever tried to put forth a truth that they found out later to be in conflict with what the Church taught, they would change it… immediately. A person cannot be a canonized saint unless he/she is obedient to the Church…

You don’t have to be Catholic to go to Mass… There, if you attend daily for 3 yrs, you will hear the entire Bible. The Catholic Church is more into scipture reading, word for word, than other churches… I’ve been to other churches… and none of them ever read an entire passage… and then another entire passage… (etc) as the Catholic Church does… They seem to read one or 2 sentences and then stop to comment… Read another, comment, etc… Is that what happens in the baptist church you go to?? I would bet that is the case because i have been to baptist churches before.
I remember one that impressed me… Yrs ago, i went to this baptist church in Tx… I liked the singing and the open expression of love for Jesus. It was my best experience in a church other than the Catholic one…

This being the case, is it a good idea for you to continue with Sunday School? Yes, if you stay, you can surely help some children, but if you sacrifice this opportunity to come into the fullness of faith, God will surely give you more than 100 opportunities later!

That is a very good point. I was asked by one of the teens if people who commit suicide go to hell. My answer was supposed to be “if they are saved of course they will go right to heaven”. The answer I gave was- “some Christian faith groups say yes, some say no. Do you really want to risk your eternal soul?”

I also just received my next quarters lesson books and there is some anti-Catholic (and false) information in there which I cannot teach. I have a feeling things will come to a head sooner rather than later, whether I want them to or not.

Eternal Security

Romans 4:5 reads, “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” This is how Abraham was saved in the Old Testament (genesis 15:6). Acts 10:43 teaches that Old Testament sinners were saved exactly as they are today… “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”

Eternal life is a gift, paid for by Jesus precious, redeeming, literal, physical blood (1st Peter 1:18,19; Hebrews 9:12; Revelation 1:5).

John 5:24 states: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

This was commented on negatively by two of the women at the Sat mass. There was also noticeable, almost non-stop talking during the whole service by some people and I won’t even get started on what others were wearing. I have been attending Baptist/Fundamentalist churches for 20 years so this was not what I expected (as well as it being completely opposite of the mass at the other 2 churches).

i have been having 1 problem after another in the Church for years… was even tempted to leave a few times, something i never thought would happen to ME… (never say never)… Sometimes i think that the only reason i stay is… well, in a word, the Blessed Sacrament. I spend as much time There as i can… and it is SO real… more real than any human relationship… WAY… :heaven: :hug3: It is amazing all the evil in the Church but Jesus did say that we would be hated by all when we follow him… I wish more people would, as you seem to, take seriously the words of Scripture… Those who flip you [whatever] because you do are probably feeling convicted… God bless…
