You can shrug all you want but the parents of these kids may not agree. Kids notice more than you think and the parents may not have wanted to deal with any questions on the subject at this time. I didn’t notice any mention of permission slips from the parents although I admit I skimmed the article.I don’t think they really did and at that age they really do not care.

The Cal Catholic article doesn’t mention permission, but the article which appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle states that permission was required and that two families chose not to grant permission.

Since it’s a public school, if they had the parents’ permission, it’s fine.
Would any Catholic elementary school-aged child of mine attend? No. But if other parents are willing to send their kids, it’s their choice.
