The above comment was made by a female student to her college professor, and it sort of stunned him, because, he explains, “In all my years at an American college, I have not heard anyone say anything comparable about the opposite sex.”
It seems that at his college anyway, men and women can be friends, rather than competitors or objects.
The comment leads to some thoughts on why this might be so. For his own college, he concludes:
“It is a real pleasure to be around people who enjoy the happiness of being young and still innocent. I am not saying that they are saints, not yet. They are what used to be called normal; and I enjoy every minute I spend with them.”
I came across the article in The Catholic Thing here, and it gave me hope that relations between men and women might still be salvageable.
