Time to oust Georgetown a “Catholic” institution?
**“Tolerant” Georgetown University Ousts Conservative Christian Groups
**by Hilary White
WASHINGTON, September 6, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – University campuses are increasingly becoming the flashpoints of the battle over freedom of religious expression. The latest battle is at Washington’s prestigious Georgetown University, a Jesuit school with a long list of illustrious alumni, where the campus protestant chaplains have ousted a group of “conservative” Christian organizations with no explanation.

If this is all you have to base this derogatory statement on regarding this issue, you should maybe reflect on the following.

From the Catechism:

2477 Respect for the reputation of persons forbids every attitude and word likely to cause them unjust injury.278 He becomes guilty:

of rash judgment who, even tacitly, assumes as true, without sufficient foundation, the moral fault of a neighbor;

of detraction who, without objectively valid reason, discloses another’s faults and failings to persons who did not know them;279

of calumny who, by remarks contrary to the truth, harms the reputation of others and gives occasion for false judgments concerning them.

2478 To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor’s thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way:

Every good Christian ought to be more ready to give a favorable interpretation to another’s statement than to condemn it. But if he cannot do so, let him ask how the other understands it. And if the latter understands it badly, let the former correct him with love. If that does not suffice, let the Christian try all suitable ways to bring the other to a correct interpretation so that he may be saved.280

Actually no. Georgetown, for a long time, has been punishing anyone who does not tow the “progressive” line. This is just another incident confirming that.

LOL This incident is nothing of the sort if all you have to back it up is this article. First of all, GU didn’t kick this group off campus. The Protestant chaplains did.

Second of all, InterVarsity isn’t exactly known for its friendliness to Catholics. It is an extreme fundamental evangelical organization with many people involved of rabid anti-Catholic. The attached doctrine statement from their web-site is filled w/ the basis with which they “crucify” Catholicism in their evangelism on campus’. intervarsity.org/aboutus/doctrine.php

Third, you comment that it is a “progressive” issue is ludicrous. If you were to ask a Priest with high fidelity to the magisterium about being involved in InterVarsity he would tell you to run away as fast as you can. Only a Priest w/ a penchant for extreme ecumenicalism would encourage InterVarsity.

The question isn’t that this anti-Catholic group was kicked off. The question should be why it wasn’t done earlier and done directly by GU.

This is why I’m carefully helping my daughter find a solid Catholic school to go to that actually teaches Catholic doctrine and follows the teachings of the Magisterium.
