S.C. Senate Debate Cancelled After Lindsey Graham Refuses Covid-19 Test

TOPLINE

A debate between incumbent Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and his Democratic challenger, Jamie Harrison, scheduled for Friday night was cancelled after Harrison demanded both candidates be tested for Covid-19 before the debate and Graham refused, leading the organizers to replace it with separate televised interviews.

No, Trump and Biden won’t be the first. See 1960’s ‘virtual’ presidential debate

Why would he refuse?

Is it a show of weakness to get tested? Is he positive? Does he not want to be told what to do?

Why would he refuse?
He said that he has been tested before and was negative. Though I don’t think that is properly his reason. Instead it feels more like an evasive response.

I’m hoping that this lack of transparency does not become a trend. The Whitehouse isn’t being forthcoming about the the infections spreading among staff and people that attended the rose garden event.

The debate commission had both campaigns agree to ground rules, and insisted that COVID would not change the rules or formats of the debates. Both campaigns agreed; they did not have to do so. You don’t get to levy additional conditions after the fact then take your ball and go home when those conditions aren’t met, even if some feel the conditions are reasonable.

The same thing happened with the presidential debate commission. When Trump asked to expand the debates to four, they insisted that the rules and formats have been in place for decades, and COVID was not a justifiable reason to pivoting. Then they unilaterally decided on a pointless zoom debate.

I guess they changed both their mind, despite both campaigns agreeing to the original terms.

Following the President contracting COVID, being airlifted and hospitalized for it, and receiving experimental treatment… and a large outbreak at the hospital.

I’d think my F-I-L would love a Zoom debate. He’s convinced the Democrats and media purposely infected Trump at the previous one.
