The White House has blocked a new order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to keep cruise ships docked until mid-February, a step that would have displeased the politically powerful tourism industry in the crucial swing state of Florida.

The current “no sail” policy, which was originally put in place in April and later extended, is set to expire on Wednesday. Dr. Robert R. Redfield, the director of the C.D.C., had recommended the extension, worried that cruise ships could become viral hot spots, as they did at the beginning of the pandemic.

But at a meeting of the coronavirus task force on Tuesday, Dr. Redfield’s plan was overruled, according to a senior federal health official who was not authorized to comment and so spoke on condition of anonymity. The administration will instead allow the ships to sail after Oct. 31, the date the industry had already agreed to in its own, voluntary plan, the agency announced late Wednesday night. The rejection of the C.D.C.’s original plan was first reported by Axios.

Dr. Redfield, who has been scolded by President Trump for promoting mask wearing and cautioning that vaccines won’t be widely available until next year, worried before the Tuesday decision that he might get fired, and had considered resigning if he were required to oversee a policy that compromised public health, according to a senior administration official as well as a person close to Dr. Redfield.

Does that mean that November 1 is the day covid-19 will magically disappear?

Considering the nightmare scenarios that put docked cruise ships, and will once again pop up, will there really be much demand for a repeat of the plague ship vacation.

I hope it works out for the cruise lines. They have an uphill battle in convincing passengers that their ships are safe to sail on. I recall seeing mention in the past that some ships were adding UV lights to kill viruses. It seemed similar to what airlines have discussed doing.

I did read some encouraging news yesterday about COVID hospitalizations rates being down. The article can be read here:

excerpt:

…Below is a look at the CDC’s chart of COVID hospitalizations.

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Remember “flatten the curve?” The lockdown was all about preventing a run on hospital capacity. The country has since been open to increasing degrees since April (that’s five months), and according to the data in the CDC’s chart above, we currently have a whopping five COVID patients per hospital in the U.S., in the 50 and over age group. And a percentage of those are hospitalized with COVID not because of COVID…

Whether they sail or not I won’t ever be cruising. Family have told horror stories of norovirus outbreaks. Not interested in a fun filled journey aboard a floating vomitorium.

If he disagrees seriously with his employer, he ought to resign. Why is he hanging on if he’s so opposed to the policies of the administration?

As hard as this might be to believe, a lot of the career medical professionals care deeply for the cause to which they have devoted their lives, even to the point of personal sacrifice. They do what they feel would most fulfill their life’s mission. Perhaps Dr. Redfield does not want to see his position filled by someone who Trump picks who would care only about pleasing Trump and not about the duty to the truth and to his medical mission.

Obviously that’s not true if he is being overruled. He’s irrelevant in his position and someone else might as well have it.

He should be a man and find a job more to his liking instead of biting the hand that feeds him.

Obviously he is not being overruled 100%.
He should be a man and find a job more to his liking instead of biting the hand that feeds him.
That is exactly what we intend to do with Trump in November.

Since that has been your song for nearly four years, it’s no longer new, deflection though it is.
As opposed to standing up for what he feels is right.
Sniping at your employer is not the right thing to do. If you have a policy difference with your boss, you tell him and then you either live with it or go on to other employment. You don’t keep drawing your pay and sniping at him to others like a Judas.
